So, back when I was a kid... probably around 10 or so, I got this doll. She was kind of small- probably half the size of a barbie, maybe a little smaller. This particular one had white hair and she came in a carrying case with a bunch of clothes. I think she had at least 15 or so things of clothes, but I could be remembering wrong. There were shoes and there may have been hats, but I can't say for certain. I'm pretty sure that this doll was made in the 80's, but it could have been early 90's. I was 10 in 1989.
I can NOT for the life of me, know what the heck this doll is called or what it was or where I even got it. My mom remembers me having it, but can't remember anything about it either! Because she remembers it, I know I'm not dreaming it up. lol.
I had this doll for a very short time, not even a full week! I think I had her on vacation, then lost her at some point and my parents, being practical, said if I couldn't keep a hold of it, then they weren't going to replace it for me. I wasn't in the habit of losing my toys, so that upset me they never replaced it. I thought she was a very cool doll. I have searched and searched Google and several vintage toys sites for it. I don't even know if it was a USA made doll either. Like I said, I don't even know the name, but I know she came with clothes- that was part of her appeal- you need not buy clothes separate, she just came with a bunch of them.
Does anyone here remember or know what I am even talking about and if so, could you shed some light? It's kind of driving me insane. lol.
Thanks in advance! lol.
Just pinging you here cuz, you're awesome and maybe you could ping some people for me that might be able to help? xD (plus I didn't want to ping waa for something non-wig related xD)
If you've ever heard of reddit, there's a section called "tipofmytongue" where you can post when you need help looking for something and you only have vague clues to go on.
Size of the doll and materials used to make it? Plastic/stuffed, and what material was the hair? Was she built like a barbie or was she "chunkier"? Please describe a bit more. I want to try to figure it out, too, lol.
mmmm, wasn't there some sort of "strawberry" doll?
, heh. this has nothing to do with any thing, except you all are in different parts of the country, and you might actually have seen something like this (for some reason, I'm thinking of you don't know why. just did. lol)
, , , hahahaaa! i was getting ready to say, all you ladies, were nearer my age, and you might remember a doll like Jules is describing? BUT then i remembered, hahahaaa, ZOILA is NO Where near our age. heeeheheee. Sorry Youngun' :D
but then, you're in a completely different part of the country, so maybe you've heard/seen this doll around?
OH! ! she too, might have seen it around and recognize the description.
GOOD Luck :) we'll see what we can help you figure out.
heh. and don't you love how you remember things one way, but your mom remembers them a different? grins.
Not sure how much help I'll be as I was and am a stuffed animal person and didn't like dolls much at all.
However, it sounds like it might have been Betsy McCall:

or Polly Pocket (I could only find a small image of those as a collection.)

- All I can really think of are the following..
Lalaloopsy

And I used to buy my daughter a lot of Polly Pocket when she was little (not sure if there is a Polly Pocket with white hair) but this doll always comes with a little carrying case and loads of clothes :)

I'm trying to remember, it wasn't a large doll like Barbie, she was half the size, just plastic and synthetic hair, like most dolls of the time (so like a barbie doll). I've seen a doll name 'Rose Petal' and it kinda reminds me of it, but that's not it. lol. It was somewhere around maybe 4 or 5 inches tall? Her clothes were cloth, not plastic. I'm sure her shoes were plastic. I think her head was bigger than her body, sorta like a strawberry shortcake doll, but not quite that big. lol.
Yes, Strawberry Shortcake was a popular doll back then too (and she has been redone and made for kids today). I never had much of her. For the most part, I was into My Little Pony and Barbie, but this is one item I had that was unique and I just simply can't find anything about a doll that came with a load of clothes like I remember. I'm just like, holy crap! Where did this doll come from and why has no one heard of it? I would think that if it was a random doll and someone made clothes for it, like an aunt or grandma and gave it to me as a gift, my mom would have remembered that- since that is far more important than what store it came from. lol.
Unfortunately, no, that's not it. I never actually had any of those (tho I did want Polly Pocket for awhile lol).
Was it Skipper? She was in with Barbie for a long time during my growing up years and meant to be her younger sister. There were also half-sized American Girl dolls.
Idk, I never was one for dolls. XD;

yah. i was never one for dolls, either. i think i only had 1 barbie, and i only played with her, when my girlfriend came over, and forced me too. lol
and yah. i think i was thinking of the polly pocket ones.
:( GOOD LUCK!
XD
Yep! Apparently, the mini American Girl dolls are still a thing. Huh, I did not know this--

Yeah, I looked them up, def not an American doll. Those things are expensive! lol. I really doubt my parents would have paid for a doll like that. Barbie was bad enough, even back then. lol. The most expensive doll they got me was a collectors "My Fair Lady" Barbie, and that was when I was a lot older xD;
Nope.... bleh. If it wasn't for the fact that my mom remembers it, I'd think I was dreaming it up. I'm wondering if it was a limited edition, or some sort of special of one of the various ones there... but what I do remember about it for sure is it had white hair... (could have been like a white blonde, but either way, it was very light and straight). Just so weird.... 8/
Can suggest another site:

where you may find something?
Good luck!
I'm not sure. I know Barbie came in a case but you said smaller. I had another doll, similar to barbie, maybe about half the size, made of most of the same material, but the legs were easier to bend (but didn't stay bent as easy tho). They came in a little white square case. (If I was back at home, I could tell you cus I still have it in a box under my old bed I think...unless family moved it by now). I had a little light blonde hair one that the hair went half way down her back. I also had a red haired one. May have had a 3rd one too.
I think I know what you were saying, there were three of them, a blonde a red head and one with black hair. They wre a little smaller than barbie with bigger heads, came in a square case mine was clear, came with clothes pets and shoes.
Yea think that is it. My case wasn't clear but had a bunch of stuff with it. Mine may have been a bit older. I got it in the mid 80s I think as a gift to go along with my Barbies cus I wanted them to have children and Skipper wasn't good enough for that...she was to big to play the role.
