I was almost in tears during that scene. Hayley slayed this entire season and she's incredible as Peggy Carter. I'm praying for a season 2 now.
I hate Dottie or whatever her name is. I know we are supposed to hate her because... well she's evil... but seriously I cannot stand her. She almost beat the crud out of Souza! (I have a soft spot for him even though I'm on the Cartinelli train.) I don't hate Jack as much any more either weirdly enough. He really gave Peggy credit for saving his life.
I am so in love with this show it's kind of crazy. It's everything I want in a show including the bisexual (assuming...) butt kicking women.
Spoiler for last nights episode
Can we talk about Chief Dooley for a second please? The man basically handed the SSR to Peggy and made her promise to protect it. I thought it would be Thompson but nope! (Okay and to be honest I kind of had a suspicion she would take over since she does go on to found SHIELD but still it was completely out of left field. That was one hell of a redemption ark. I actually shed a tear when he exploded. Chief Dooley may you rest in peace.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
Oh gosh, Dooley's death was very sad and he went in a very heroic manner, so I actually really enjoyed that.
Agreed, Hayley has been phenomenal throughout the show. She's so talented.
I found the first few episodes slow, although it was enjoyable watching her and Jarvis (their interaction truly grounds the show for me), but the speed has picked up in the last two. I hope they'll get Season 2 in order to show us more of Peggy's story. She's such an incredible character.
I loved how slow the episodes were. I feel like Marvel did a really good job pacing themselves with the episodes. It's enough to make you excited but not super overwhelmed.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
Well, I'm late to the party, but I made it.
Okay, so apparently the guy was in some manner a latent telepath. Dooley, moreso than in previous episodes, was played as a very sympathetic character. It was a very noble and very sad scene when he decided to hand the torch over to Peggy and died so no one else would get hurt. Though, as a former army medic, my only complaint is that shock-waves from an explosion don't care that you jumped out of a building.
"He made it ten yards! The waves from the explosion won't reach us from outside! Screw science! Huzzah!"
In fairness, that's just my nitpick with every big explosion scene because I'm aware it's not very exciting when something explodes and then everyone has difficulty hearing each other and are disoriented for a few hours, or even days. Though the SSR, being a government agency, should have at least had a TBI test done on all the personnel. Oh, wait, this is the 1940s. I don't think that existed yet.
Okay, I'm going to stop being a nitpicky ass because I really, really liked this episode.
I really did feel so sad and sorry for Dooley. After seeing the scene with his wife, my heart dropped in my stomach when I saw him wearing that vest and I knew what was going to happen. :(
Earlier in the episode, I did have a chuckle when Peggy and Jarvis were contemplating how to get out of the locked room. Smash the mirror, oh, wait, we're still handcuffed to a table! In goes Thompson to save the day!
sigh When Sousa and Thompson took that random agent with them to investigate the building, y'know what my hubbie muttered under his breath? "Red shirt!" And he was completely correct. The guy hesitated because he wasn't expecting a woman of Dottie's hottitude and died for it. In seriousness, though, I read an essay a little while ago that when a combatant is dressed as a non-combatant, even when briefed about what the target looks like, there will still be hesitation about actually engaging that dangerous target because it completely screws up what the soldier/agent thinks of as what is actually dangerous. Thompson saw what happened in Russia, so he had perspective. Sousa already knew what was up, but the Red Shirt probably up until that point only fought shady looking men and, if he was prior service like the rest of the agents, another soldier in uniform. Aside from suddenly jumping from the stairs like some crazy jumping spider, a woman dressed like, well, a regular woman, wouldn't have immediately registered as a threat out of habit despite Sousa and Thompson's warnings.
That, and Dottie/whatever alias she has now, has skills, but I do argue that if the Red Shirt hadn't hesitated, she would have died right there regardless of skillset.
... and, you know, RED SHIRT.
Speaking of Dottie: The scene in the theater. WHAT THE CRAP WAS HOWARD STARK WORKING ON? ANGRY GAS? That scene alone was more horrifying than the last season of American Horror Story. Seriously. You go in to innocently watch the most recent blockbuster and next thing you know, your loved ones are clawing your eyes out and you never come out again.
All that aside, Peggy was fabulous all throughout this episode. Not a single note was missed. I'm speechless and also very sad that we only have one episode left.
I think the reason this season has been so good with development is because it was only supposed to be 8 episodes. The writers don't have the time to mess around with filler or toy about with multiple ideas. Because of the episode limit, everything has to be concise in some way to contribute to the overarching plot while still developing the characters and keeping the show going. There's no room for straying or showcasing irrelevant ideas, and I think that, in a lot of ways, makes that method a lot better than what's happening in Agents of SHIELD.

I am hoping for season 2 and dottie in s2 and angie in series finale.
Hi everyone! :D How are you guys?
I'm hoping for a Steve/Peggy moment as Chris Evans had shaved his beard that week and was hanging out with Hayley Atwell at the time of filming the last episode. I think that it's just wishful thinking on my part though!!!!
Ok, I was laughing so hard when he jumped out the window. I'm sitting there thinking to myself "Are shockwave blasts not a thing in the 40s?" Other than that, though I was just so in love with this episode. When Jarvis showed up with "Howard's" confession and he's just smiling so adorably at the lady at the switchboard, I kinda started reaching towards the screen and thinking "aww, puppy!!!" and then I realized I was talking about a grown man and I just shook my head.
However, one thing that I was absolutely fistpumping (not really, but mentally) over was when Dooley was telling Ivchenko that he felt like he needed to keep the box. I was like "YES! THAT KIND OF HYPNOTISM DOES NOT WORK! YOU KEEP THAT BOX, SIR!" and then he gave it away....and I was angry again....
To be fair to the red shirt, it's very hard to kill anybody (not that I have any experience but I do read lots of reports(because I'm a nerd with no life), not to mention that she's a woman, and dressed like a civvie. There was no way anybody who didn't explicitly know what they were dealing with could've just taken the shot. Also, loved the fact that Sousa now has the two sets of directives. "Kill Peggy Carter" and the second one, which proves that Peg was right all along.
But still, Thompson can go hang. He's still a putz in my book and the fact that he uncuffed them doesn't fix it. The angry gas though....it almost seems like a commission piece. Howard's an ass and he's pretty destructive...but he's not that bad. It had to have been a government commission. Maybe to stealthily plant in the enemy camp and let them tear each other apart? Or maybe Ivchenko and Dottie modified it for their own purposes? They did say they would have to test it out before releasing it elsewhere.
"What if there are people on the other side of that mirror?" "Then they'll get hurt, there'll be a spray of glass" "What if those hypothetical people have guns?" "Then we'll get hurt, there'll be a spray of bullets." And all I could think of was...if there were people....they'd be able to hear you....and would probably either run (if they didn't have guns) or shoot (if they did). Why would they wait for you guys to break the window?
On a side note, I completely agree about the development. It's very well paced out and organized and I think it's largely due to the fact that they can't waste time, which is fine by me. Don't get me wrong, I'd love for A.C. to get a normal season, but I'm also ok with the short one as long as it's this fantastic all the time.
I have to hand it to them. That finale was incredible!! It's hard to believe the series was only eight episodes long.
I absolutely hate hypno-dude. Souza playing along and then punching him in the face was the biggest form of satisfaction all season minus Peggy punching Thompson. Souza wins the nice guy award. I just want him to be super happy.
Thompson at the end taking credit pissed me off at first until he looked at Peggy and seemed a little upset about it. To be honest I think he knew that Peggy would continue her own work and if she had been given the credit she couldn't have been able to. He was almost saving her and then it allowed for the best line Peggy said all season. The thing about knowing her worth and not needing to meet the President made this show perfect. You have have an imperfect human and put her in tough situations and have her come out on top and thrive and not need a man by her side. Peggy Carter is a superhero in her own right.
Howard Stark is still a douche. Jarvis is awesome as usual.
Cartinelli at the end! Angie gets this huge house and Peggy gets to thank her properly for having her back when she was in a tight spot.
All in all it was incredible and I hope we get a season 2 or at least get to see more of Hayley Atwell.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
There was so much that happened in the finale, it boggles my mind that so much was covered in under an hour. Bravo to everyone from the writers to the director to the producers to the actors to the-- Oh, hell, you all get my point. It was fantastic.
Despite the seriousness of the moment, I kind of chuckled when the hypnotist heard about Stark's "hero moment" over the radio and told Dottie that they were going back. When the moment cut to another scene, I just imagined her thinking "OMFG You old coot, I just drove all night and fought rush hour traffic in New York to get all the way out here and I just killed someone and now you want me to go back after I hide the body EFF YOU DAMN IT I HATE YOU."
Oh, and speaking of things related to Dottie: So Howard Stark hooked up with her some time ago. Didn't Tony Stark sleep with Natasha in the second Iron Man movie, too? It's been a while since I've seen the film. Hmm, so entertaining Black Widows unknowingly must be genetic or something.
The cat fight! Well, not really, that was a really, really serious fight. Poor Peggy got battered. Oh, but what is this? Despite Dottie having the upper hand, she miscalculates and Peggy throws her out the wind-- NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo!! DOTTIE! MY CRAZY PSYCHO PICKLE GIRL! SHE'S DEAD! SHE'S DEAD! SHE'S-- Oh, hey, she got away in an unexplained manner. How convenient. Maybe in TV continuity she'll be Natasha's mom or something.
I'm just throwing crap out there, I dunno.
Jarvis is my hero. And Peggy deserved the standing ovation. Not sure if Thompson was being a jerk or just saving Peg the agony of dealing with the media frenzy so she can do real work unnoticed. I think it's the latter.
Angie was so freakin' adorable. Yes, yes, Angie, there is indeed a phone in every room.
Howard Stark might be a cocky, horny twit at times, and true to the Stark name, he will always have douche-like tendencies, but I did admire that he acknowledged what he had done during the war was, well, bad. He wanted to redeem himself so badly that the very urge to help was used against him by the hypnotist near the end. Luckily, Peggy snapped him out of it and I sort of teared up her... ultimatum? Not sure what to call it, but it was very touching to see her come to final terms with Cap's death at that moment over the radio and the ending when she is standing over the bridge with Steve's blood.
And just as Peggy poured Captain America's blood over the bridge, Namor happened to be swimming by and yawned at that precise moment.
Get it? Namor? 'cause he's Marvel too... Not funny? Yeah, I guess so. Don't pay attention to me.

Great to hear from you!! I was heartbroken at the end with the Steve/Peggy scene. Hated the hair they went with for Peggy, but gosh that was such a poignant scene.
I also loved Howard's appearance in the episode - and it was so touching how much he wanted to find Cap for Peggy. And that Cap was the one thing he was proud of in his life. Oh Howard... :( I really enjoy Dominic Cooper actually.
Yes the cat fight was insane - and how Dottie kept on saying she wanted to pretend to be Peggy. Gosh I was creeped out!!
Ah yeah I did like this episode. I've enjoyed the show, but the first half of the series was very slow and didn't move the plot too much. I think the show works because of the great performances by Hayley Atwell and James D'Arcy, who ground the show for me. They're incredible.
I totally agree with the hair. It was like they completely messed the wig up to make her look older. Not a fan!
I think Dottie was saying that because all she wanted as a girl was to be normal. It's sickening but her reality is weird and twisted.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
I didn't actually notice the hair, tbh. Maybe it really was messed up during filming because of wind? Or maybe that was the effect they were going for. Who knows?
I guess since Dottie from as far as she can remember was always being trained to act like someone else due to the entire Black Widow nature, being herself wasn't really an option when she was younger. So maybe, in her twisted way, she was saying that while she wanted to kill Peggy, she admired and was envious of Peggy's lifestyle because, essentially, Peggy was a reflection of the life Dottie wanted but never had.
Okay, I can't believe I just thought of this, and I'm sorry for referring to past episodes, but... Dottie is Russian. Yet, when she was communicating with the hypnotist across the street in the dental office across the building, she wrote her notes in English, by default making it easy for pretty much any average American Joe to read them. Wouldn't it have made more sense for her to write in Cyrillic since, y'know, Russian?
And wait a minute, wouldn't that dentist she killed have had other appointments? Did Dottie call them all off-screen and tell them he was going to be out since she made him indisposed?
Okay, I'm overthinking everything. But still!
[center]
I think it was the wig, since that film was done in the studios, wasn't it? And it was just really big.
Yes to what you are saying about Peggy's life being what Dottie never had. There was also a moment with the mirror with Dottie pretending to be Peggy. I think a big part of it is that Peggy can love someone and be loved, and that is something that is completely foreign to Dottie.
I didn't think of that with the Russian, but yeah I think it's just for the American audience haha. :)
Aha overthinking is good. Keeps things fun!!
I'm pretty sure they had it in English because of the stupidity factor. If it had been in Russian we wouldn't have been able to understand a huge part of the show. It makes sense that it should have been in Russian.
It was the wig. Hayley posted photos after the fact on Twitter making fun of it. I think it just aged her for some reason and made me laugh during a scene I should have been crying over.
I think I'm being to nitpicky though because this show is and always will be my favorite Marvel side project simply because we got an understanding of a character I already knew was awesome.
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
That's what I thought. They could've put a subtitle next to it, but they didn't choose to do that.
Ah okay I didn't see that, but will check it out post. :) Yes it does make me cringe that wig.
Agreed, I am very nitpicky when it comes to this show too, because I love it so much. I am looking forward to Daredevil a lot!!
Hmm, methinks it wouldn't have broken the bank too much to make subtitles for Cyrillic, but it was such a quick scene and such a minute detail that a normal viewer wouldn't dwell on it or even really stop to think about it anyway.
I'm kind of on the fence about Daredevil. I think mostly because the movie from a while back ruined my perspective of the character. Mayhaps the show will change my mind. The trailer for it looked really good.
[center]
Think it was a matter of convenience for the viewers, they figured.
I like some of the comics a lot for Daredevil, but I hear you about how bad the film was lol. They've got a interesting cast though, so fingers crossed! :D
Did you both see that Hawkeye is going to be in the next Captain America movie?! I am a diehard Clintasha fan and maybe they will try and make a connection? (It's mostly because Joss Whedon is screwing with us with this Hulk/Natasha thing so I'm hoping he doesn't try and make that happen.)
It's still going to be awesome.
Daredevil looks good but I don't know if I'll watch it. I need to start AOS first and finish catching up with the Flash. (Not Marvel but still incredible)
Working on filled wardrobe achievement. Almost at 12k!
Whedon is really irritating. I say this as someone who has seen Buffy and Angel and Firefly etc, so I know that he likes messing around with ships and changing his mind every five minutes. Interesting to see there will be Clint in the next episode. Sounds like everyone is in the show though.
Ah that's good to hear that about The Flash. I didn't like Arrow when I saw it, but my friends are saying that The Flash is a lot lighter and funner. Yes Daredevil looks good!
Nah, man. He made a half-hearted attempt (seeing as how he was so gone on Pepper at that point) but he didn't sleep with her. Of course, Peggy deserved a standing ovation. Why did Thompson take the applause for her work? Because he's a conceited egotistical twit and the media would never go for a kickass lady agent, so he took the glory for himself. Thompson is a shit head. Has been from day one and though a shithead can act nice occasionally, he will ultimately always be a shit.
But the scene with Peggy handing Howard Steve's shield was just so damn sad but also awesome, because she's picking up his mantle. She is the new Captain America. smart and sassy (but at least she understands the concept of a plan, unlike Steve "plan? what is this unknown concept and can I throw it at someone" Rogers.
Also, Dottie was the last appointment. He was already closed for the day, he was just interviewing women for the new secretarial position or at least that's pretty much what he said when she walked in,
