Jenna tries to keep her stern look of disappointment, but fails as she starts to giggle. 'Apparently it must've been the Scooby snacks that distracted you once again!' Thank you, my dear :)
Leaf had been smiling as Jenna graciously accepted the congratulations of some of the other teams on their costume choices. However as his elven ears picked up the first strains of music he cringed and barely suppressed a groan. It could mean only one thing. And then the nightmare came true as Juana leaped...literally...onto the scene. The elf eyed the costume and whispered to Amdir, "That doesn't look much like any picture you all showed me of this Scooby character."
Amdir sighed and shrugged. "She got the color right at least. And remembered a tail."
Rolling his eyes, Leaf said, "I suppose. But she's going to be in the doghouse a while for this one."
Amdir snickered and elbowed her team mate. "You need to stop trying to make puns."
With a little grin, Leaf turned his gaze back to Juana and met her eye a moment before sauntering over with his easy grace. "For heaven's sake at least wipe your chin," he hissed in her now furry ear. "Someone will think you're rabid and shoot you. Hmm...on second thought maybe you should leave it." The barest hint of a twinkle in his blue-grey eyes were all that gave away the elf's teasing.
(OOC LOL I love you guys XD)
Juana meets the bard's quip with a thankful smirk. "I may have found the pantry along the way..." She joins in the giggling and gives Leaf a nudge as she wipes the offending sugary evidence from her furry chin. "Back to business then?"
True to his style, Inspector Brie is slowly pacing around the room, surveying the scene and listening for snippets. He's never had a crystal ball to fill him in, although he has consulted a friend who does from time to time, but he has found that baffling cases often resolve themselves through listening. Suspects lie in interrogations more often that not, but when they feel relaxed...
Right now, he knows that someone has been rather neatly framed, another is so innocent as to appear suspicious, and everyone except for Mr. Marmota and the staff are suspects. In passing, he hears:
Inspector Brie studies a fresh document Kandace hands to him and nods. Yes, indeed, the pieces are falling together. He looks forward to the detective teams' opinions. It's going to be a good night after all.
Laurie shudders slightly and turns, murmuring to the rest of as she walks past "I don't know about y'all but I threw up a little bit in my mouth overhearing that phone call."

Abigail over hears Elkhorn's phone conversation and grimaces. How can a woman put up with that kind of treatment ? she wonders. Trying to keep an open mind, Abigail goes over her notes and realizes that this new information leads to greater befuddlement and strangely, more clarity. Time to sift through the details, plucking out the truths amidst lies and pinning down the real suspect. "Ladies," Abigal says quietly to her team, "we have our work cut out for us. Who wants to go grab takeout while we set up the new information on the board for deliberation?"

Juana seethes as she uses all her willpower to stay her hands from the old man's throat. "I hope that woman makes it through the night without a beating." she murmurs. She contemplates whether the team could spare her once things wrap up long enough to follow him home and enroll him in a course of her own...

She has to shake herself rather sharply to push aside her thoughts about what she would love to do should she be allowed to interview the Professor one on one instead of in a room full of witnesses others. The Whovians reveal who did it
The League of Whovians gather to discuss the information that they've discovered. Quietly listening to all of the hypothesis on the best candidate, Esmerelda DaLacroy reaches blindly in her bag and eventually pulls a pen out, opens an old book then flips through the pages finding a clean blank one before beginning to take meticulous notes using an exacting cursive handwriting. As each person contributes more, the picture of suspects narrows. Occasionally looking up to give a nod of agreement as she leans forward to squint at one particular person then glancing in the direction of their audience to make sure they also understand, Esmerelda prepares to hand the completed parchment over with the signal of the Whovians at the bottom when all is finished. Gradually a small smile plays on her lips as the excitement builds and even Sweetie Pie gives a few knowledgeable meows. The old woman has always loved working with this group of smart girls for just this reason... the give and take of each as they work so diligently was amazing!
They hear a call from down the hall. All the teams and suspects are gathered together, waiting to hear the outcome of the investigations. Inspector Brie and Kandace are standing by the door, preventing anybody from escaping too soon. The Whovians enter and sit quietly as a group, listening to the rest of the teams present their findings. Trixie nervously glances through her notebook, murmuring notes to herself. Soon it was their turn.
Trixie stands and clears her throat. "Thank you everyone for gathering here. We will first like to talk a little bit about Caudata Marmota and then recap the facts of the case. Caudata was a party girl, she liked a good time, maybe including a few chemically enhanced pleasures. But she had a big heart and cared deeply for her family, including Sibrica, and those who found themselves at the bottom of the well of life. If people hurt the ones she loved, she bit back. She was having school problems as she failed an earlier science class and was receiving tutoring from Eichhorn to try and make up the credit, though she didn’t want to since she was aware that Eichhorn had a thing for her.
Caudata was found inside her bedroom which was locked from the inside. The bedroom window was open, which can be reached from a tree outside. Caudata had a minute quantity of flunitrazepam in her system; not enough to cause her death but certainly enough to knock her unconscious. What actually killed Caudata was suffocation and there were no other signs of a struggle or contusions on her body.
We had a large amount of evidence, some of this proved to be red herrings, leading us down the wrong track, but which ones? The area rug, with the patch of fur underneath, was that the killer's, torn away during a struggle? The cell phone with the cryptic message to Alberton Mental Hospital? The open window, was that the killer's way to enter and exit the room? After all, Caudata's room is locked with a keypad, the combination only known to people close to her. The music box with the drawer on the bottom hiding a sentimental gift? The outfit and strangely out of place shawl strewn on the floor of Caudata's closet? What was that mark on the shawl? Finally we have the diary, with several rather interesting entries.
Now let us move onto the suspects. We know that each one of you except for one notable exception lied to some extent in your original statements."
Sibrica Bitsy turns to the young prairie dog "Sibrica, we think you were that notable exception. You have come far and done well for yourself, consistently telling the detectives and police the truth. The Marmotas recognized your good heart hiding in your troubled background and adopted you into this wealthy family. Caudata was your best friend, you met at college and you were very much like sisters, always giggling with each other, sharing everything. Caudata was very good to you when you found yourself at your lowest, she was a very caring girl. You used to date Utah, until Caudata took him away from you. What you might not be aware, was that she did it because she cared about you and thought that Utah would ruin your life. She was trying to protect you, with Utah and even until her death." Sibrica gasps and glares at Utah, a silent tear dropping down her cheek.
Layana Esmerelda nods at Caudata's sister. "Bright and intelligent student that you are, you felt you were always in your sister’s shadow. You never got on, even as young children, you were so different from each other. But you were envious of Caudata and how men just seemed to flock to her like a moth to a flame. At the end of the day, though, you were sisters and that’s what matters. You did lie about where you were on the night of the murder, didn't you?" Esmerelda pats her hand "It's ok, dear, we know you love him even though you shouldn't, given the way he treats you." If looks could kill, the aging detective's glance would have cut the professor in half. "I...was in the hall outside Caudie's room" Layana whispered. "There was yelling, then a door slammed and he stomped down the hall. I know it must have been the wine he brought -- he was always bringing her things. But I couldn't let him be arrested! So I lied..." "Arrested?! I did nothing outside of tutor that thankless girl." sputtered the Professor. "We'll see about that," says Esmerelda.
Bacina Amelia takes over, striding right up to Bacina. "You see yourself as part of this family, and indeed, Mr Marmota is your uncle. But you seem to be far too driven by money and greed. You look down on Sibrica, thinking that she is a gold digger, but you yourself have been described as prepared to kill your own mother for a penny. You appear to have a solid alibi not even having been on the asteroid at the time, claiming the first time you came back to the mansion was shortly before we all arrived to investigate, but maybe are you hiding something?" "What could I possibly be hiding?" scoffs Bacina.
Utah Amelia is too much of a lady to snort, but a sound of disdain comes from her. "Indeed, Bacina." She turns to Utah. "You have been self-centred and superficial, and people know you as a playboy. But that's changed, hasn't it? You have come to the point when you have to knuckle down and get serious if you want to stand a chance at receiving your inheritance. Sibrica was deeply in love with you, but Caudata seeing the likelihood that you would ultimately break her heart stepped in and broke the pair of you up. Maybe that was wrong of her, but well-intentioned. Caudata saw you as a bit of fun. Though you claim to have broken up with her in your statement, in actual fact it was the other way round and you still have feelings for her. You claim that she was still after you, but according to her diary, she found you boring." "Boring?! Of course that's how she thought of being responsible. Who was the one who stepped up when there might have been a baby? Not my buddy Woody." Utah shakes his head. "Nevertheless, was that enough motive for murder?" Amelia replies. She indicates that Tatiana should take up the explanation.
Eichhorn "As a squirrel of intelligence and influence, you are used to having your way with any woman you set your sights on. What did you lie about? You lied about not knowing Caudata. Her father had paid for you to give her extra lessons to help her make up credit from an earlier class. But you fell for her, didn't you? The only problem is you have a wife and children, even though that didn't stop you and Layana from getting together. When Caudata rejected your advances, you just couldn’t understand it. In your arrogance you continued to try to charm Caudata, only to push her farther away. You would look for reasons to visit the mansion to see Caudata and give her expensive bottles of wine. Evidence has shown that you are a squirrel with a temper and we all know that temper can do odd things to people. But would it push you as far as commit murder?" "How dare you! I am a professional!" "A professional sadist, perhaps," snarks Tatiana. "We have video of your arguing with Layana, followed by the sound of her being beaten. That may not be murder, but it's still a crime in our book."
Tamias "Tamias, you met Caudata on a charity tour at the hospital years ago, where she found you incredibly charming. Maybe she even checked back on you off and on while doing charity work, eventually leading her to get you a job at the mansion. Unfortunately, this had the side effect of convincing you that you both shared a romantic connection when none existed. Still, we can see how much you care about her, but could your obsession have driven you to murder?" He is visibly shaken. "But...I loved her..."
"We don't think you killed her," adds Trixie gently, seeing Tamias getting worked up at the accusation.
Woodrow Esmerelda approaches the final person. "You might not have been a suspect, but you held some important information. Ferrying luggage to the asteroid even before Bacina decided to come? Extra-heavy bags, which just happened to get lighter after you left them alone? Didn't you wonder what had happened?" Woodrow chuckles. "Who am I to worry about Bacina's strange starts? This would have been my last trip for her anyway -- she's too much work, for too little of a good time." "How dare you!" Bacina lunges at him and has to be restrained by the Inspector.
Trixie resumes to summarize the team's findings. "So what happened that night? We believe that this was the sequence of events around Caudata's murder."
So who was it?
In unison, the team whirl round and point at Bacina. "It was Bacina. The one who claimed she wasn't even on the asteroid at the time of the murder. Bacina, you were getting angry that Sibrica was getting close to the family, and became worried about your inheritance. You try to get Caudata to put Sibrica away again back into the mental hospital, but she wouldn't. And now, she might reveal your underhanded plans. So, you decide to kill her and implicate Layana, thus getting all the money for yourself. You carefully plan the night to make it seem that you aren't anywhere near the mansion when Caudata is killed. But you arrange for your good friend Woody to take your trunks from wherever you were supposed to be back here to the asteroid. You pack yourself into one, thus accounting for the much higher than normal weight. How much do you weigh, Bacina? I know it is rude to ask a lady her weight, but I'm guessing around 15 pounds? Anyway, he flies them in, Utah comes out to help him unload. They go off for drinks, and when they come back, the bags are suspiciously lighter, because you have already gotten out. You make your way back to the mansion, climbing the tree outside Caudata's window to make you way in, place the bottle of wine, hide and wait for your opportunity. It was your stiletto heels that made the marks in the dirt under the window and the bark of the tree. It was your fur on the rug.
"The following day, your shuttle arrives into the hangar, conveniently unseen by anybody. You say that your first trip back to the mansion was with us, but your good friend, Woody tells us that you actually came out of the mansion to tell them the news about Caudata. I assume then that's when you went back to your shuttle and went to hire Nutsy. You thought your plan was foolproof. You didn't even need to implicate Layana because she did that herself. But you didn't count on one thing. Mr. Marmota recognized Sibrica's inherent goodness and adopted her. "That was hilarious!" says Woody, totally out of tune with the serious occasion. "I knew she had something up her sleeve, and now she'll get nothing!"
"For once the honest will prosper," says the Inspector.
Solving the Case of the Suffocated Heiress
Prelude
Appearing at the corner of the desk with a stack of papers needing to be sorted, Chook waved them threateningly in the air. "After copious notes in meticulous detail I was still undecided who the murderer was. I tried working out things using a logic puzzle grid but had too many suspects and too many unknowns. Much like the rat puzzle. My instinct told me that it was one person, logic told me another and my heart went another way. I was bamboozled, frustrated, indecisive and somewhat irrational. That is where Laurie and Atrueheart were my saviours. They patiently sat me down and in a rational manner went through all the evidence they had compiled, all the fors and againsts, the alibis, the who it may have been, the who it was not and the whys and wherefores. They gave me information about evidence that I had dismissed as irrelevant and made me look at the suspects in a completely different light. After much discussion and deliberation I knew exactly who was the murderer. Therefore my fellows I accuse Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Candlestick!" she declaired, tossing the blank sheets she had snuck into their quarters into the air, about giving Laurie heart failure. "CHOOK!!" "Well.. prove me wrong!"
Crinkling one into a ball Laurie threw it at her, "Wish I had a snowball!" "Heh," bcsam replied, his finger tapping one of the 6 folders laid out on the desk.. "Wish I had a stungun." Tapping a second folder he said with a wry smile.. "Wait a minute.. I do, don't I!" "What are you talking about?" Webby asked. Jeice and bcsam exchanged knowing glances. Jeice tapped one, then another, then another of the folders as he made like a wild west gunslinger.
"Ya know, guys, that gives me an idea," Laurie said. "A really good idea.." "You can NOT have my gun." "Shush you, hey True, got any straws?"
In typical Holmes style, Webby's Watsons stood united at the front of the room, folders in hand, their eyes moving from suspect to suspect before anyone spoke. What the inhabitants of the room didn't know was before this display of professional sleuthing at it's best, the team drew straws to see who would go first.
As the group moved closer to the people in their suspect pool, Webby began by addressing everyone present. "Friends, as everyone here knows, there is a killer amongst you. A killer so cold and calculating that their attempt at committing the perfect crime would warrant weeks if not months of planning while the killing a beautiful young woman did not warrant so much as a second thought. Nor did framing her own sister for such a heinous act.
They almost got away with it, too. But not quite."
Tamias

Speaking to Tamias directly she continues. "I'm so very sorry for your heartache, Tamias. Although you are a bit confused about how long you've actually known Caudata, it's obvious that when the two of you met during her charity tour at Alberton Mental Hospital, you were instantly smitten.
At first we had some .. concerns. Once you told us about your previous employer it helped us understand how you knew so much about the Professor's uncovered violent behavior at the University and subsequent prosecution. That in turn helped us take your other accusations about his behavior seriously. We know how much you cared about Caudata, Tamias, she was the one person you wanted to interact with at the Mansion. We know that you are aware that the professor violent outbursts when it comes to Layana.
We also know that you did not interfere in this. We know you felt your purpose for being at the mansion was watching over Caudata, not Layana. You mentioned you look out for her father but we believe your true intent was to keep Caudata safe even if your methods seem a bit .. unorthodox. Truth be told if they weren't, we may not have been able to solve this horrible crime. We hope you can find solace in that." Chook pats his shoulder reassuringly, her hand remaining where it is, applying just enough pressure to imply it's best to stay seated, just in case.
As Chook finishes her explanation of how Tamias is involved in all this, bcsam steps up along side Sibrica and continues:
Sibrica

Several clues seem to point your direction, Sibrica. Caudata being the reason for your painful breakup with Utah, your becoming so close to her in a relatively short amount of time, knowing the key code for her room, your poverty stricken upbringing, your access to flunitrazepam, your reason for hitting rock bottom partially being Caudata's fault. We know you came here on a charities scholarship and we suspect quickly found yourself in the sites of a tall, light and handsome prairie dog.
Life at the mansion was new to you, as were the lifestyles of the privileged who reside here." Nodding slightly toward Utah bcsam continued. "By your own admission, you fell hard for him, believing he was the one. In the mean time you had gotten very close with one of the heirs to the Marmota family, Caudata. Then Caudata turned Utah's head and you were nothing but a memory. We know he broke your heart.
Caudata has an odd way of showing her love for others, we don't believe at first you understood that she did this to protect you. We believe you were quite naive at the time, but Caudata knew the end game in your relationship with Utah would be a thousand times worse for you to deal with. She'd played the same game. By your own admission your "best" friends actions hurt you deeply but we also believe you when you said the two of you talked about it at length and you came to understand her reasons for them.
We've all seen first hand how well you and Bacina get along. There's a lot of animosity there. Bacina considers you nothing but a gold-digger, a peasant. She knows Caudata was passionate about charity work, Bacina considers you nothing more than her cousin's latest charity case. You said outright that anyone who cared about Caudata would know what code you use to get into her room. Obviously you consider Bacina as a cousin who cares nothing for anyone else in the family. We know you see her as a money-grubbing bitch. We believe Bacina thinks the same about you.
We know you spend much of your time watching over the patriarch of the family, reading to him, letting him know you're there. We know there is a bottle of flunitrazepam in his room not far from where you were sitting during this time. We also understand that being Caudata's best friend makes you not a friend of Layana by default. We know Layana would say hurtful things to make you feel in her own words - poor, stupid, small.
Oh yes, Sibrica, several clues point in your direction indeed. Fret not, my dear, we also know you spoke openly about painful and embarrassing situations in your statement without making excuses for any of them. Even now, knowing how Layana feels about you, how she has treated you in the past, here you are, rushing to her defense, remaining by her side even when she pushed you away. Taking all of these facts into consideration and carefully scrutinizing the clues we've uncovered in this mystery, we do not believe you participated in this horrendous crime."
Addressing Inspector Brie and the rest of the people in the room he states matter-of-factly: "This young woman is not a murderer." As he finished his explanation of Sibrica's involvement in the crime, he gave the inspector a nod, moving aside a smidge as Webby simultaneously stepped forward. Flashing his teammates a charming smile bcsam positioned himself between Tamias and Sibrica, ready to offer comfort or control at a moments notice should the situation arise.
Having a soft voice and gentle way with people, Webby stepped forward. She paused for a moment, 'A delicate situtation indeed' she thought to herself before moving close to the forlorn form of a woman they all perceive to be much akin to an injured child or broken doll - or both. Her touch light as a feather, Webby placed a hand on the trembling marmots shoulder and in a soft almost sing-song tone, began to speak.
Layana

I assure you Layana, we've left no stone un-turned getting to the bottom of this mystery. It's difficult to keep outside influences out of the mix as times, yes, but much like a chemist has to deduce the most minute changes necessary to complete their equation so goes the way detectives deducing facts from the information they see before them. As you may already be aware, our investigation has uncovered things that you and others in the room will wish were left undisturbed. We are not exposing these things to embarrass you in any way, we are here to find your sister's killer and bring them to justice." Webby gives Layanas shoulder a gentle reassuring squeeze before continuing. "I hope you understand."
"From your statement we know you disliked many things about your sister Caudata. We know that the two of you were oil and water, opposite in every way. Your statement hints that some of the responsibility for her death may very well rest on her shoulders.
Your statement mentions Tamias. We've found nothing concrete to base that opinion on other than what you saw in passing or any additional information for our case docket from this. You also mentioned Utah but the things you spoke of were past tense. Your sister was not seeing Utah any longer. We don't believe you have had any real interaction with either of these gentlemen and have dismissed those parts of your statement.
We know Caudata was no angel. We know she was forcing you to do her school work for her. We know she knew you and the professor were involved on several levels. We know you believed she was using your involvement with the Professor as leverage to make sure you complied with what she wanted you to do. We know your sister knew he was beating you. We know she told you to talk to your father about it instead of saying something to him herself. We know that though your differences seemed wide as this asteroid, you cared about her. And she cared about you.
We also know that your bracelet was discovered in your sister's closet wrapped in the shawl that was used to strangle her."
Webby paused for a moment before continuing as tactfully as possible. "It's hard to discern where outside influence ends and your opinions begin, Layana. We know you began attending Marmot University at the age of 16. We also know that also placed you under the tutelage of Professor Sciurus and eventually under his thumb. We know by your own admission you are very involved with him. We know that you will do anything to protect him and we know that you are fiercely loyal to him and no one else. Technology has shown us you have been physically, psychologically and emotionally abused by him. At least one of these events unfolding as recently as just days before your sister was murdered. We know that you are in love with him. And from your own admission you believe your sister and I quote - turned his head.
All roads lead to you Layana, thus the reason we believe you were placed under arrest. Your refusal to defend yourself or declare your innocence also leads us to believe you think you know who actually murdered your sister. We believe you're blinded by your emotions, Layana. We believe you are a pawn in this ghastly game, that you are innocent of all charges leveled against you. We're staking our reputations on it."
Fearing Layana's reaction to the things said about the professor could bring her even more pain, Webby keeps a reassuring hand on the sorrowful creatures shoulder, wishing against wishes that somehow she could give her the strength and clarity it's going to take to help her see whats painfully obvious to anyone paying attention.
Addressing Inspector Brie and the rest of the people in the room Webby's demeanor took on a serious tone as she resolutely declared "This young woman is not a murderer." As Webby finished talking, Jeice stepped forward. In passing Webby whispered in a pleading tone Keep that temper in check Jeice. Jeice shrugged, her eyes staring coldly as she walked past Bacina, the professor and Utah. She had her own ideas on how to handle one or two of the remaining people in their suspect pool. She glanced back at Laurie who shook her head slightly, then at True who rolled her eyes. Giving them both the look she mouthed the word Fine! and turned her attention to Utah, her icy stare chilling him to the bone.
We know you've a reputation of being an infamous heart-breaker, some even say womanizer. We know that you seem to know quite a bit about Sibrica's private business after you broke up with her. We know that you believe Sibrica has never gotten over the way you ended your relationship with her. We also know that none of this has anything to do with Caudata's terrifying demise.
Jeice gives an exaggerated sigh "If you knew the things we found out about you, Utah, that over-inflated ego of yours would pop like an overstuffed python. Lucky for you, they're not why we were brought here, solving Caudata's murder is.
In your statement, Utah, you stated that both Sibrica and Caudata were burrow cuddles of yours. These young women seem to be the only people you associate with directly in the Mansion. You also stated you had ended it with both of them, Sibrica by tossing her aside because Caudata came along and Caudata because she put too much pressure on you." Jeice called for Inspector Brie to roll film, exhibit A. After the video plays, Jeice gets right in the terrified playboys face, her words dripping with contempt "We know 'too much pressure on you' translates to Caudata feared she was in .. trouble and you being the cowardly bastard she mentions in her diary - split." True and Laurie both stifle a giggle, Chook pretends not to hear, bcsam raises an eyebrow and Webby makes a slight throat clearing sound. Jeice shrugs, her personal satisfaction at getting an extra dig in about that situation in front of

Cosmic sleuths crack the case!
Esme looks up from all the scattered notes that she had made from the information the team had gathered, scratching her head she ponders how was she ever going to come up with the answer to who was the murderer, with a sigh, once again she decides to read through her notes. One name jumps up from the group of the suspects more than the others, there is something that seems odd about the professor, she can’t fully put her finger on it.
“Alright.†Ilaera said to the other members of her team. “Let’s discuss the information we have acquired on our five possible suspects and see who has the best motive."
“Shall we start discussing suspect number one?†Kenny asks as he looked toward utah, trying not to stare, but wanting to at least catch the mans eye contact.
“I really don’t think he has murdered Caudata...†Esme said in response, pausing for a second between thoughts. “I mean, I know some people might think he has the best motive, because he and Caudata had been dating for a bit, but they broke off a long time ago and everyone knows that Caudata is now dating Woodrow, who is of course Utah’s best friend!"
“That’s true.†Sashi responds. “And don’t forget that Woodrow and Utah were seen on a security footage at the airport at the time of the murder and they were also both seen heading towards the library."
“So the alibi Utah has given us seems to be correct.†Kenny concludes. “That means it’s safe to say that Utah can be removed from the list of suspects."
"I agree on that. Ow' bout we head on ta the second suspect. No need ta keep chattin' bout utah when we all say it aint him." Jettison said as he chewed at the top of his pen, trying to think of how to say what he wanted. "We all know that Tamias an' caudata met bout' four months ago." He continued, now pointing the pen to Tamias who was on the couch.
“Tamias always says that he tried to protect her, which might seem true, since he was able to give us a lot of information about certain other suspects.†Esme chimed in on the subject.
“I can’t believe Tamias could be the murderer.†Sashi said, “He has been so shocked ever since she died, I don’t believe anyone would be able to give an act like that…so I don’t consider him a suspect, never have actually."
“I also don’t think Tamias is the suspect with the best motive.†Kenny says. “Of course he might have been jealous, but still I think he would rather see her aliveâ€
“Alright, so we’re scratching Tamias as a suspect†Ilaera says, while she quickly starts to cross out his name on her paper, seeming happy with this decision. She felt sort of bad for the kid.
"All th' stories n' info we gathered bout the third person 'ave been inconsistent, or just told differently." Jetty said with a grimace, not liking the way this one was turning out. "Some 'ave been sayin Sibrica and Caudata were close friends. While others go on 'bout a fight between em, caused by a love triangle. As if Caudata stole Utah from Sibrica."
“I believe Sibrica and Caudata were still friends.†Esme responded, turning to face Jettison with a very thoughtful expression. “The maid told us that Sibrica was around the house often enough. Caudata herself wrote in her diary about Sibrica and all those entries were kind enough to believe the two of them were friends."
“I believe that Caudata knew about the whole adoption plan to make Sibrica a part of the family.†Kenny continues. “I don’t think Sibrica could have been able to hurt Caudata, I mean if Caudata really knew about the adoption plans, she was helping to give Sibrica the one thing she always wanted."
“A loving family?†Esme asks.
“I think it’s more a money issue...†Sashi whispers to Ilaera.
“Let’s just go and erase Sibrica of our list.†Esme says. “No need to keep her on this, since I never considered her a real suspect anyway."
“Layana seems to be the suspect with the best motive†Kenny says doubtfully. “I mean she had a good reason, everyone knew Layana and Caudata hated each other and that’s something even Layana herself told us."
“She was also able to gain access to the pills or the materials to make those sleeping pills†Esme says.
“Layana told us that she was at the library at the time of the murder†Sashi reminded his comrades, “But if she was also at the library, with Utah and Woodrow being there too, why didn’t she mention them?â€
"Out of Caudata’s diary we could gather the information that Caudata knew some things about Layana’s private issues, it could be that Layana didn’t want her to give the information to others.†Ilarea crossed her arms and brought her lip up to the side, more in a thoughtful than annoyed way.
Before anyone even had time to open their lips to speak, Jettison hopped back in with some thoughts. "I mean...I 'ave heard every bit'o information we gathered on layana. But even after 'earing about all of th possible motives I dun think Layana really 'ad a reason ta gank 'er own sister."
“Well, before we end our discussion on Layana, we could go and discuss the professor first.†Kenny adds in.
“The professor told us that he had dinner with Mr. Marmota and went straight to his room after that. The maid said he was in Caudata’s room before the dinner, but when he left, Caudata was still alive.†Esme looked back at the suspects, really still unsure who had done it. At least they had eliminated a few. She still worried what would happen if they convicted the wrong person.
“Yeah, but who says he couldn’t have gone back in after the dinner. I mean he says he went straight to his room, but he has no witnesses for that." Sashi looked at Esme, feeling her nerves in this. He was just thinking the same sort of thing. But knew that right now they had to ignore this worry and finish the job.
“The professor teaches chemistry at the school†Ilaera said.
“He said he didn’t have Caudata in any of his classes†Kenny said “But we have heard from others that Caudata was given tutoring sessions by him, so why lye about that, why would he say that he had no connection to Caudata?â€
“The more so, because the household and certain other suspects place him around Caudata’s room lots and lots of times.†Sashi tells the others.
"Hmm...I think I know what mightve' 'appened." Jett said, speaking a bit louder now with out even noticing it. "Ya all remember th' video we saw, right? Of th' prof and Layana?"
“Of course I remember that video!†Sashi says. “It’s hard to forget about what we’ve seen on itâ€.
“Im not sure what you are getting at. The video only showed us things we already knew from the diary entries Caudata wrote†Ilaera said, questioning why Jett was so interested in it.
"Ah, slow down there girlie." Jettison grinned. "Th' way I see it, there are only a few possible outcomes ta this murder mystery. In any of em' it was Layana or the Professor who truly did it."
“I think we really only have one true answer, since I don’t believe one of the last two suspects could have killed Caudata. He or she wasn’t able to do so†Ilaera says.
“Layana could have killed her sister to make sure the information Caudata had on her, was kept safe.†Esme said, sounding a bit unsure of herself as she spoke.
“The professor could have killed her, because she knew too much about him†Kenny responds.
"Yer all missin' one big thing. There is a possibility that they were in cahoots. Who ever said a murder could only be caused by a single killa?" Jetty chuckled, sure this may seem like a sort of game to his rag tag team of detectives in training. But there were no rules to murder, game or not. There was no way anyone could even tell that that for sure it was a specific number of people. They needed to think outside the box. And a duo truly was outside of it.
“No way!†Ilaera spat, thinking Jett was just trying to stir up more trouble than this was worth. “There’s only one suspect that has done it and I know who that was!"
“Who was it then?†Sashi asked, sort of feeling like Jett could be right. Neither of the final two seemed like they had the exact motive to do such a thing.
“The professor killed Caudata and he tried to frame Layana for it. I mean come on, everyone in here must have known about him beating her up all the time, there even was a video of that in the evidence, Layana loved him and he took advantage of that. He was having a secret relationship with her. If anyone would find out about the beating and the relationship, the professor would lose his wife and job, his entire life. And Caudata knew! So the professor had to get rid of Caudata, but he couldn’t do that without also making sure Layana was out of the picture, because otherwise she would tell her family, friends or the police, she knew too much. What’s better than to kill the first and frame the second. I mean who would ever believe Layana couldn’t have done it, everyone knew she and her sister hated each other."
"Well, th' Professor does teach chem." Jett tilted his head, thinking about her theory. "Layana was in his classes. His statement even gave us a glimpse of 'is desperation for a way to prove Layana did all the experiments. As if ta say she 'ad the knowledge as much as 'e did."
“We found Layana’s bracelet inside Caudata’s room†Kenny added in. “People could assume that Layana lost it there, which might be true, but when we gave the bracelet back Layana was surprised to find pills in there, so surprised that I don’t believe she could have placed them inside. But since the professor was having his secret relationship with her, he could have been able to put the pills inâ€.
“Maybe the professor put some of the pills inside the wine?†Sashi asked “There were several people telling us that the professor brought wine to Caudata’s room, even on the day of the murder. It was easy enough for him to head back after the dinner, knowing that Caudata would be asleep and then use her pillow to suffocate her."
“And now Layana wants to take the blame, because she still loves the professor†Esme says with a sigh. “The tragic tale, an ultimate love story gone bad."
"It could work..." Jettison said in a hushed tone as he lit a cigarette. When he flipped his lighter closed and took a puff of the smoke, he seemed more content with the final decision. "Course' it didnt 'elp that th prof was a horrid actor. Otherwise th' sleeze could'ave got away wif' it.
Nightowls reveal the murderer!

Aislynn scanned the suspects assembling slowly in the room, took a drag off her smoke and exhaled slowly. "I'm just going to say it...You all are so intertwined in each others lives and drama that trying to plot out the connections going on here ends up in a big ol snarl. It's like this angry little incestuous world that you all live in. I get a headache just thinking about it." She began rubbing her temple with her left hand while looking around for an ashtray before continuing. "So, with that said, let's start at the beginning and see if we can unravel this nasty knot, shall we? Then we should find who killed Caudata." She turned toward her teammates and with her back turned towards the suspects she mouthed the word "Help" with a look of desperation on her face.

Seeing the look on Aislynn's face, Jill stepped up and slowly started to circle the dinner guests seated around the table. "When we first started investigating this case, we thought it would be straightforward - one killer with one clear motive." She opened up the notebook in her hand and scanned through the notes for what must have been the hundredth time. "But we are now certain that more than one of you knows what happened on the night of January 6th." Upon this comment, Jill examined the faces of each guest, her solemn face giving nothing away. "You were given the chance to tell us the truth but some of you still held back. No matter... I believe what we have gathered up till now will tell us the complete story."
"Keeping in mind that more than one of you have a motive to kill Caudata, we also had to ask ourselves one simple but crucial question: Who would benefit the most from Caudata's death? To answer that question, we had to look at the relationship each of you had with Caudata."
"First up... Tamias Odawa." Everybody in the room looked at Tamias, who was quite startled by all the attention. "You were the obvious suspect - unclear background, turning up suddenly four months ago to land a job as the handyman. Not to mention the fact that you constantly claim Caudata was your childhood sweetheart." A couple people around the dinner table nodded knowingly at that comment but Jill continued uninterrupted. "Through our interactions, we quickly realized that although you were not all that mentally stable, your devotion to Caudata was clear as day. Oftentimes, love is the motivation behind murder but in this case we think not." The dining table became abuzz but Jill continued regardless, silencing them effectively with her steady voice. "No... for Tamias, there was no clear motive for committing such a crime nor would he benefit from it. It is evident that he wasn't here for the money. He simply wanted to be near Caudata and our investigations indicate that he did nothing but 'love her from afar' - as he himself had said."
Jill paused for a moment as Aislynn handed her a glass of water, taking a couple sips before handing it back and murmuring her thanks. "Next up is Utah Gunnison." Everybody's attention was now on Utah, who appeared a little uncomfortable. "In your statement, you distanced yourself from Caudata saying that you two 'weren't seeing eye to eye' and that you 'had to pull the plug'. On the other hand, Caudata's diary entry told us a different story - she wrote that you were begging her to take you back." By this point, Utah was fidgeting in discomfort, looking rather embarrassed. "However, break-up stories tend to differ depending on which side you were talking to and we decided that it wasn't unusual for ex-lovers to twist the story a little to save some face. You admitted that you were jealous and still had some feelings for her while she had moved on with someone new - your friend Woodrow Woodchuck." Bacina's glower was noticeable but she kept her mouth shut as she stared down at her plate. "Caudata also appeared to have been playing down her feelings for you - as we found a locket with your picture along with a Valentines card inside her music box." Jill looked up from her notebook and glanced at her fellow investigators as they nodded for her to go on. "The evidence we looked at suggested that you two had a somewhat complicated relationship beyond being exes - she confided in you about her fears and you supported her because you still had feelings for her. So... other than jealousy of Caudata being with Woodrow, we don't see any other real motives for murder and certainly no benefits."

After Jill finished her summary of Utah, she gestured to Willow to continue as she moved away from the dining area to discuss something privately with Aislynn. Willow cleared her throat, a little nervous that now all eyes and ears were on her. "Uh... please bear with me, as public speaking is not exactly my strongest suit." The guests were all silent as they looked at her expectantly. "Right... um... let's talk about Ms. Sibrica Cynomys." Taking a deep breath, Willow looked down at her own notes and began. "Although none of the evidence we gathered pointed directly to Ms. Sibrica, we believe that she has more motives than most to commit the murder." Sibrica gasps at the statement, her eyes widening in horror at the implication while Bacina seemed to thoroughly enjoy her plight - she could almost jump in glee, by the looks of it. The rest of the guests reacted in confusion and started talking over each other as they made comments of their own, some in disbelief, others in suspicion.
"Wait, wait... Let me finish!" Willow tried to regain the floor as she gestured for everybody to calm down. "We are not accusing anybody yet, so please calm down!" It took a few moments but eventually, all attention turned back to her. The atmosphere had become tense. "Now... where did I leave off...? Uhh... oh yeah. So it appears that Ms. Sibrica was close with Ms. Caudata, much more like sisters than with Ms. Layana. Ms. Caudata never had any reason to distrust Ms. Sibrica and even approved of the prospect of Mr. Marmota adopting her. On the other hand, Ms. Sibrica had plenty of reasons to resent Ms. Caudata. Apparently everyone is aware of the fact that Ms. Caudata took Mr. Utah away from Ms. Sibrica so revenge is a possible motive. We also cannot rule out greed as a motive - Ms. Sibrica came from a poor family, a scholarship student who had to 'do ghastly things to make ends meet'. She was aware of the possible adoption that would make her an heir to the massive Marmota fortune. What better way to secure the fortune for herself while completing her revenge by killing Ms. Caudata and framing Ms. Layana, who was always at odds with her in the first place? Now that would be what I call killing two birds with one stone." Willow chuckles to herself and then stops. Apparently no one else in that room found it funny. "But um... yeah... So our conclusion is that there may be more to Ms. Sibrica than simply being a close friend and eventual adoptive sister of the late Ms. Caudata."
Willow fanned herself for a moment. That was too intense for her there. She looked over to Jill and found that she was still talking to Aislynn so no chance of her taking over as spokesperson now. She took a deep breath and decided to go on. "So... moving on to... Ms. Layana Marmota." Layana looked up at hearing her name, her face betraying nothing but sadness. "We understood that your relationship with Ms. Caudata was less than pleasant, to put it mildly. You never got along as sisters and you couldn't be more different as individuals. While it is hard to believe that you would kill your own sister, the sad fact is that most murders are committed by someone the victim is very familiar with. Getting murdered by a complete stranger is rare, but not unheard of. Anyway, my colleagues and I believe that you do have some possible motives - love being one of them. Another could be jealousy. We know from various sources that you have feelings for Professor Sciurus, who obviously does not feel the same about you. We also know that he made inappropriate and unwanted advances to Ms. Caudata." Some of the guests gasped at the revelation while others scowled or nodded, having already known the fact. The professor started to splutter in indignation at Willow's statement but was silenced when she gave him a cold stare.

Aislynn and Jill returned to the room to find the suspects looking much more unsettled than when they had stepped out. Willow shrugged at their questioning looks and turned to Abigail. Abigail smoothly stepped forward and continued where Willow had left off. "Bacina. You were next on our list and you too have ample reason to want Caudata dead, or at least out of the way. You hated sharing Woodrow with her and without knowing that Sibrica had officially been adopted, you thought you would inherit if both Caudata and Layana were removed from eligibility. Jealousy and greed tend to be powerful motives." Bacina squirmed a bit in her seat before settling on a look of shocked innocent outrage. Abigail continued breezily as if discussing the weather, "But you don't seem to be quite clever enough to not only pull off the murder but also frame Layana so nicely. That may just be an act though to cover a truly devious mind."

The girl sitting waiting quietly in the shadows stepped forward, into the light. She casually strolled in front of the Professor and dropped her cigarette butt into his glass of whiskey. The look of shock on his face was quickly replaced by rage. "Now, now Professor, you sure you want to do that? Especially here, in front of all these people?" His red face drained to white and she turned to address him along with the rest of the room. "I'm sorry to be the one to have to say this but it must be said. The professor has not been exactly faithful in his vows of marriage. He tried time and time again to put the moves on our poor Caudata but she always said no. I'll bet that made you very angry indeed. However, she's not the only girl that struck your fancy. Layana did as well. She was and still is, head over heels for you. When you asked her to help you drug her friend, she said no, but only at first. You were very persausive and she is a very small girl.. She did drug Caudata but at the last moment had a change of heart. And that's when you two got into a scuffle. I'm surprised she got out with only her fur torn. I'm surprised we didn't find her body in there also." The Professor was stone-still the entire time and the rest of the room waited, breathlessly as the next member of the Nightowls came forward to continue the tale.

Abigail steps more into the room as she gives the preliminary criminal profile that helped narrow down the suspect list. "The crime scene was organized and showed no signs of a struggle. Even though the crime scene was organized, which usually means the body is hidden; there was no evidence of an attempt to hide the body, which suggests the killer is confident. There was no sign of pre or post mortem mutilation (sexual or physical), which suggest this was not a sexual or sexual sadism linked murder. This organized killer planned out the details of the attack and carefully carried out the plan. This was not a crime of passion nor was it random -- Caudata was specifically targeted to be killed in the specific way she was: drugged asphyxiation."
Abigail continues on, after carefully scanning the room of suspects for deviation in their behavior, "In cases where strangulation/asphyxiation is the cause of death, there is a high percentage that the victim has a familial relationship with their attacker. Therefore it is likely that the attacker is related to Caudata in some way. The most common motives for strangulation are: rape, sexual jealousy, and personal rivalry." Again, Abigail pauses for emphasis and to watch the reactions of the room full of suspects, hoping that at any moment one of them might blurt out and admission of guilt from the pressure of this meeting.
"It is more than likely Caudata knew and trusted her attacker and allowed her attacker into her room and locked the door herself. It is also very likely that the killer views themselves as weaker than Caudata and therefore needed to subdue her with drugs before attacking her. Rohypnol (flunitrazepam), most commonly known as a date-rape drug, was used to subdue Caudata. The delivery method of the drug flunitrazepam was more than likely wine."
Abigail calmly looks around the room, watching closely for any signs of behavior change as she continues delivering the profile of the suspected killer. Her voice slows down and intensifies as she delivers the most important part of the criminal profile, "It is therefore likely that our killer is a female, skilled employee (or full-time student), socially competent, relative of Caudata, and someone who uses alcohol in the commission of the crime." Abigail steps back as her college takes over.

Bolstering her confidence, Willow once again takes the floor. “After reviewing all of the facts, statements, and evidence, Nightowl Investigations recommends that murder charges be filed against…….Sibrica Cynomys! We believe the scene played out in this fashion: Shortly after the Professor left Caudata’s room, Tamias climbed back down from his window view, thinking that Caudata was going to undress and go to bed. Professor Eichhorn went to Layana’s room and demanded that she find a way to make Caudata more amenable to his advances. Layana knew what the consequences would be if she disobeyed. She paced the room, trying to think.
‘Drugs! Drugs are the answer!’ Layana said to herself. She crept down to Mr. Marmota’s room, told Sibrica that she was having trouble with insomnia, and asked if she could take a couple of her sleeping pills. Sibrica agreed.
Layana knocked and asked to speak with Caudata. Once in the room, Layana maneuvered herself to Caudata's glass and slipped the drug in her wine. Layana left shortly after, making sure the door was unlocked behind her as instructed by the Professor. The Professor waited a bit to give the drugs time to work, then crept into her room to have his way with her and "show her who was boss." Layana’s conscience got to her, so went back to Caudata's room to beg the Professor to leave her sister alone. Caudata was already passed out by the bed and the professor was furious at the interruption. There was a struggle between them, and some of Layana's fur was torn off and ended up pushed up under the rug. Her bracelet landed in the closet. They wrestled their way into the hall, and the door got pushed closed behind them. Neither of them knew the code or had a key.
Layana went to her room beaten, battered and heartbroken where she cried herself to sleep. The Professor went to his room frustrated and angry. Both of them were too caught up in themselves to notice Sibrica in the shadows listening to them.
Realizing that she would never have a better chance than this, she quickly opened the door using the code she knew, and then calmly and coldly held a pillow over her best friend's face until she was dead. Then Sibrica placed the pillow back on the bed and walked out of the room closing the door behind her so it would lock.â€

Von Steuben and Wilhelmina Von Wachter sat at the table together and waited for their cue from the Inspector to make their pronouncement. Wilhelmina had insisted that, when the time came, Frieda, being the oldest of the two, would present first. At last, the time came and Inspector Brie stood and introduced Team Sparrow to the members of the Marmota family. He winked at Frieda. ( was he being fresh? Did he fancy Frieda? He had seemed rather forward in the Parlor as he pawed at Frieda's badge and complimented her about it. Had he peered down her blouse? Not that there was anything to see down there...still...Frieda shuddered.)
Frieda was an emotional mess, she didn't have a clue who the real culpret was, she was a Master Healer and she was darn good at it, but this sleuthing thing was beyond her ability to figure out. She saw the good in everybody and even though she could read a person's emotional state, there were so many conflicting emotions coming from so many people in the room, she just couldn't keep them all sorted. She smiled, daubed at at her mouth with her napkin and stood. She was nervous and suddenly wanted a sip of water. She reached down and knocked her waterglass over, but it was empty and simply clanged against a chafing dish and made the head butler grimace at the thought of a chip in the china.
She looked over her notes and a trickle of sweat ran down her back all the way to her tail and it gave her the creeps. She imagined that a spider had just ran down her back and she wanted to scream. Instead, she shuffled through her notes again hoping that something would jump out of the hundreds of pages of transcripts and testimonies and reveal itself as the golden bullet that would solve this case.
frieda's presentation
Frieda read through her notes to the guests seated at the table.
At first, she had suspected the Professor E. as the murderer because he had once been involved in an altercation with another student. But after the phone conversation, she realized that there really was no evidence compelling enough for her to believe that he would risk losing his wife, young child ( whom he had just spoken to over the phone ) and his career. He may have made some bad decisions, but he wasn't stupid. Therefore, Frieda had scratched him off her list. He valued accomplishments and position and murder didn't fit into those aspirations.
Utah was never a suspect for Frieda, he seemed like a sober fellow, relatively speaking. He had some rough edges, but he did say that he would take care of Caudy in the end, even though their relationship had ended. Such a statement didn't come from a murderer.
Layana didn't fit any of Frieda's emotional profile for a murderess, despite the fact that the police had handcuffed her and were in the process of charging her for the crime. Just because somebody is arrested and charged doesn't mean that they did it. Frieda rationalized that if the police were all that good doing their job, then why were they there to solve the case? What was Layana's possible motive, fighting with her sister over homework? Frieda couldn't see that as being a strong enough motive.
Tamias was a real enigma for Frieda. She had seen his type before, emotionally labile, conflicted, overly-possessive and just downright creepy. She had once been victimized by a young weasel by the name of Westly Stickleback, who had laid claim to her in such a way that he wanted to kill her to keep her safe ( in his twisted logic ). Tamias seemed to fit this profile at first, but later Frieda realized that he was quite simple in his thinking about Caudy, he just wanted her to have a happy life and took it upon himself to try to help. Sadly, now that Caudy was dead, Tamias just might snap and vent his emotions on the real killer to tragic consequences.
Woodrow just seemed like a loose end. Why was he there? Did he fly somebody around? Frieda couldn't find her notes on Woodrow and decided to skip over him for the time being and come back to him as soon as she got to that page.
Bacina...Bacina, Bacina....where was all that data on Bacina? Frieda was really stumped by Bacina. For some reason, Frieda really disliked Bacina, there was something about her emotions that bothered her, it was as if she had managed to completely fool everybody with her little act. And yet, Frieda had nothing on her. Bacina wasn't even on the asteroid when the murder happened. Since Team Sparrow didn't have any evidence whatsoever on Bacina, she couldn't make a statement about her, even though deep down in her heart she suspected Bacina the most.
Frieda set her papers down and looked around the room. She tried to look confidant, but it was obvious that she wasn't. She pointed to her cousin Wilhelmina and introduced her to the dinner guests.
">spoiler=Wilhelmina Von Wachter's presentation was even shorter then Frieda, she was one of the smallest of their clan and yet her diminutive stature didn't distract from her skill as an observer and member of The Watchers. Wilhelmina didn't need papers to look at, she had her report memorized and she stood to deliver it with a clear high voice...
Sibrica is guilty. She took one of her pills and drugged Caudi with the wine. Caudi would never suspect Sibrica of doing something like that to her. She framed Layana, who's bracelet was found at the scene under the shawl. It was rubbed in a way to make the inscription look like LM, instead of CM.
I think Caudi knew Sibrica was angling and the calls and texts were to someone from the mental hospital (I wish I knew who since it seems very sinister) Possibly either someone wanting her to commit Layana?
I think Utah had no part in it as he CLEARLy stated that he'd support Caudy in whatever her trouble was, even though he seemed upset by it.
Tamias is a red herring. if he was going to kill anyone it would have been the professor.
While the professor seems like a good fit, and I could be completely wrong, I feel like he has obviously spent a long time securing his position and reputation, this includes never having been charged for beating up a student. Murder wouldn't suit his decadent way of life and power over others.
With Layana arrested and going to jail for life, and Caudi dead, the only person to inherit anything at this rate is POSSIBLY Bacina, although that seems unlikely since she appears to have not even been on the asteroid with the murder occured. So it falls on the newly adopted Sibrica, who, in the more then likely event that Mr Marmota's fragile health worsens, would be sole heir.
There is bloodstained fur under the rug, but we weren't allowed to inspect the suspects about this as far as I know, but I bet dollars to donuts that we will find that the fur belongs to Sibreca.
The motive for the murder is greed and jealousy. Imagine being friends with a rich, gorgeous person who steals your boyfriend and has everything handed to her. There's no denying that Caudy was a manipulative person. She manipulated her sister into doing her course work, she manipulated Utah into pledging support to her (for what we're not sure) and she manipulated her own best friend.
I mean, it's pretty dodgy to date your best friend's ex. (Seriously? No girl of any worth would EVER EVER date her best friend's ex, EVER...but I digress.) But Sibrica got what she needed from Caudy, limelight from being friends with a famous person. She was poor, she was so poor and desperate she claims she tried to kill herself. (But it could all be a ruse to hide the fact that she lost a bit of fur during the murder.)
But if Sibraca was really Caudi's best friend and Caudy wasn't a total despicable slut, it would mean that Sibreca would be pampered by Caudy. Sibreca benefitted from treats, dinners out, nice clothes and all of those things that a rich girl might lavished on her BFF.
That Sibrica managed to worm her way into Mr Marmota's affections so deeply that he ADOPTED her is not a complete surprise to me. I imagine that Caudy, as beautiful as she was, was prone to bringing disaster down upon her family name. Her drinking, drugs and partying was stressful to family relationships at best and a source of embarrassment to her father. Layana wasn't doing much for the family name by having an affair with a married man of letters. So Sibrica appeared 'on the doorstep', as it were, injured and innocent, playing up the part of a poor child from a single parent family. With Caudy parting and Layana busy with her affair and school, who would tend to Mr Marmota? Sibreca swooped in and played her role for the long game, knowing that in the end, her hard work would pay off a million fold.
Little did she know that Wilhemina was on the case. It is for these reasons that we name Sibreca as the murderer.
Another bead of sweat rolled down Frieda's back and she gave a little hushed squeal of the creeps as she imagined a very small snake slithering down the middle of her back toward her butt. Thank the Maker that was over. She turned toward Wilhelmina and patter her paw. "Good job cousin. You did great."
