Oh, man, I would LOVE this feature! Especially with the original ""This is already under the tree. Do you want to continue?" idea, because I'm sure that some people would like multiples of certain items, and things like Wizard Tokens never get old.

I like to spoil people with things at Luminaire, but I'm always worried that maaaaaaybe someone else has already given the same gift. This is especially problematic with super expensive gifts, because they can be pretty HTS, and I'd hate to gift something that will just sit around unused :(

I like the idea of seeing "this user has it already blah blah" on the wishlist. For myself, I have been doing the give the above user something under the tree and I do it to, but you tend to see regulars so you go through the same wishlist a lot. Sometimes for myself, I even forget what I have gifted people, and I would hate to give them hard to sell duplicates. If you want duplicates of things, maybe just have it as a comment on your page, a tag on your forum page or rename the category like Books (Duplicates Needed!)

Personally though, if someone is gonna go out of their way to have a friend tell them what they already have, let them ruin their own surprise. That is their own fault and it is not going to harm anyone else in the long run. I personally think it's a little ridiculous to go that far just to see what you are going to receive.

Personally, I don't see the problem with duplicates. Sure I'd rather give a unique gift but isn't it supposed to be "the thought that counts"? Besides, if I buy something for person A and I get the message, then I have to go through the process of finding them another gift, spend more sP and I'm left with an item I don't need, I don't have anyone else to give it to and could take eons to sell, with the possibility of eventually selling it for millions less than I paid.

There's also the possibility that some troll will spoil it for you - some people are incapable of keeping their mouths shut.

Oh can I be on your friend list? I would love this! I need those damned worm achievements and I don't play enough slots to acquire that many oofa fruit.

I felt the same way about the duplicates, as this is my first Luminaire. Then I considered the resell value and thought it wouldn't be all that bad and hoped that if I get duplicates, it wouldn't bother my friends if I resold some stuff. Lots of things to think about your first or second time around.
I don't actually think it would be possible to work in a way to put that option into play UNLESS you've already bought the item and that would be a waste of CSC and/or sP.

I love the points you make. Buying everyone the same thing doesn't sound too bad AND some people's WL's are just CRAZY!

As for the lag such an option would create... everything creates lag on this site.

I like the idea a lot and I think it would be very useful. To those who don't like the idea: you could still give the already existing gift, it would minimize (at least I hope) the risk of having too much of something.

As long as it works in the form of a pop-up alert rather than being taken to a dead-end error page with that scary error monster roaring in your face, I'm golden.

This would be seriously a life saver. Spending 8mil+ on some random forum people has it's risks...like the fact that you might have just wasted 8mil on a backdrop that someone else already put under that person's tree. I can see this being a rather difficult thing to program and might put a little stress on the servers after a while but I honestly think it would be well worth it.

Yeah there's no way I can think of where this would be as great as it seems. Like, if it tells you inb4 you've bought anything you could just go around shitting on everyone's holidays and telling them what's under their tree already via wishlists (or spoiling it for people who want to know) (or disappointing people who've gotten nothing they wanted and probably 10 random things from random people xD). If it tells you via message after you bought the item then, well that person either 1. is getting a second copy anyways because I already bought it or 2. isn't getting anything because like hell I waste more money to get the same message.

I dunno what the big deal is in regards to "oh no what if they got two?" like, then they'll sit on a second until they decide to resell it/they'll offer to give it back because they only need one/they'll pay it forward and gift someone random who has it on their wishlist/maybe they need two because they're a hoarder idk.

If someone is that concerned about it, just gift things people always want many of? Potions, MKBs, wizard tokens, GAs, csc, books, the collection vs. just the collection item, trinkets, invites, etc.
