I would support it. Think of it like a pickle jar you keep on top of the fridge. Just drop a certain percent of your daily earnings into it, no fee or interest. I don't think it's as much a matter of not being able to control your spending as it is a visual and mental aide.
I suppose you could just open up a new shop but it really doesn't seem like it would take more effort for the site to open a "till" than an entire shop. Staff could even charge a fee for opening more than two or three of them just like they do the shops.
This sounds like a nice idea, actually. To address the problems of varying interest rates, I don't think the categories need to necessarily be separate "accounts," just make it possible to have subsections or categories in your sP vault.
I imagine something along the lines of:
You still just have the options to "Deposit" and "Withdraw" sP into your vault, but there would be the additional option to "Create Savings Category" and "Allocate sP to Savings Category," or something along those lines.
Honestly, why not buy something expensive that holds its value and sells quickly, like GA Medals or CSC cards, and stick it in your item vault?
Evidently, not everyone on this site has their own job and thus would ask their parents for money to use on the site. Obviously saving up the sP for one of these items takes away the whole point, so that option is out. If they are unable to get CSC, then this is just completely useless. Not everyone can, even for people who do have their own jobs. The money could simply just not be there. I think we need to work on making the site more sP only user friendly, rather than always turning to CSC for things. I understand it helps out the site and I'm not saying annex it completely. I use CSC myself. But going around the site without CSC is rather disheartening because you see something for it on just about every page. So for people who can't get it because of whatever reason, it really is a pet site turn-off. I'm not talking about people using real money to buy CSC. A 100 Credit Gift Card seems to usually be around 4.5-5m. 1 week GA medal ~8m. Or for smaller amounts, wizard tokens. 100 pt Wizard Token ~200k. 500pt ~1m. The benefit of Wizard Tokens as savings is that we already have a separate currency bank for that.
This isn't an idea that I'm against, I just don't see it as being necessary.
Oh, so you're saying to buy an item with saved money (such as GA medals or Credit Gift Cards) and use how many items you have to keep track of it? (If that's not what you meant then you'll have to explain, sorry)
I suppose it's not a bad idea, but if we were able to have multiple accounts for saving, then we could cut out the middle man. It just seems easier to be given the option to open another account. Another good thing would then be able to name said accounts too, for labeling.
how about this, anyone who wants to do this just send me your sp and goal target.
You keep sending me sp and when you reach your goal, ill send back your goal amount.
I wont even charge a handlers fee.
Very nice idea. Problem solved.
That's exactly what I mean :) Yeah, having separate accounts would be more convenient, which is why I'm not -against- it, I just think we have methods already. It's definitely not something I'd gripe about if it were implemented though.
I like the idea of having "savings categories" to keep track of goals. It would be a nice feature. Not necessarily essential, but I'd definitely use something like this :)
