Yeah see, typically coupons are disabled on Black Friday from the get go, but this year they weren't, so I supposed that, since they're not given out anymore, they were considered free game for those who still owned any.
That was a very optimistic view tho :P
Still, the people who used it can't be at fault (since it was the site's code that left the possibility open) and it's fair to give others a chance to use a coupon too. It's actually more than I'd have expected, I'd have expected them turning it off instantly if it wasn't meant to be that way.
It'd have been nice if the alert said "We will be disabling coupons tomorrow, for the duration of the sale!" instead, though.
I foolishly used my coupons on a cart full of items that got glitched and wasted it xD now I need another cart full and have no codes. Gave too many away :( oh well :)
Hope this is just for the sale! Wouldn't be fair for everyone to lose theirs
Sorry for the short alert message, guys! must have been in a hurry last night. As many of you have already speculated, YES, this is in regards to the cash shop coupon codes that we have given away in previous years (but are no longer available to obtain if you don't already have one). There aren't many left out there, but the ones that still exist are wreaking havoc on the system on the back-end. We typically disable these coupons during large-scale sales such as this, and this time around, we just forgot to do it ahead of time. We'll be disabling the coupon codes for the duration of the sale in order to correct the issue that's occurring with a lot of people's shopping carts, and the codes will be re-enabled after the sale. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused any of you - if you had an issue with your individual coupon code, please make sure to include that in your ticket information (including the code you attempted to use) so your assigned UA can take care of it for you.

What was the rule to get one, I'm a seven plus years member and never got no coupon, didn't even know what they were...still not quite sure...
a year (or two ago?), you got a discount code if you purchased csc using real life money.
You got them by purchasing cash shop credits with money. They amount of discount varied depending on how much csc you purchased, from 5% up to 20%. There was a higher one at one point but they adjusted the values at some point. You got an email that contained the code you could use. I used a 20% off (and consequently lost most of my cart hah). That code was from 2012 hah. My last 20% off too. I think I have like two 10% left.

Honestly I don't remember - I always buy mine with either PayPal or my saved credit card.

Yeah, I'm glad they gave us a heads up, I'm using them until I can't use them no more (for this sale). LOL.

Thanks for the clarification. I only have a few (mostly 5%) codes left and I hadn't thought of using them for this sale. Mainly, because I forgot I still had some, when I did remember I thought I might use one to to get some of the 2014 collections I've missed. But, if it's glitching the site I'll let that thought die quietly away.

I used a coupon code several hours ago and the code worked fine. I didn't get everything I purchased though, so now I can't buy anything else until they fix that. and I was going to try and buy a few more things with another code tonight. oh well.
thanks for the clarification! I'm guessing this is why people were having issues with not getting everything they bought and maybe why I didn't get the fox the first time around. Good to know
Just popping in to clarify - We never have coupons enabled for these kind of sales and it was an oversight that they weren't turned off.
Which caused people to put hundreds (sometimes thousands) of items into their carts which caused the carts to crash and tons of work for the UAs and programmers to fix.
So we've disabled them but I wanted to give a little bit of advance notice so it wasn't completely unfair for the people who were able to use theirs on the first day.
