I'm actually with you on the collection items as limited prizes thing - stickers, books, plushies and beanbags are all things I'd like to see not used as super exclusive prizes, because.. well, they're collection items. I'm not holding my breath though. :P
re: the actual suggestion this board's making, I'd like to see achievements/forum titles for the overall winners and the genre winners. I'm not fussed about everyone who joined/supported a band getting an achievement, but it'd be a nice extra for our winners.
I would like genre-specific titles for the finalists, like "USER just wants to Rock'n'Roll" or "Pop Sensation USER". Don't know if that would be possible though.
Yeah... definitely not holding my breath, haha. ._. I also wish trophies came back, I find them really fancy and unique, but oh well!
Ohh those title ideas are cute xD It'd be fancy to see that around the boards!
LOLOL oh god the wishful thinking here about collection items not being top tier prizes... this is the first thing that popped in my head (I mean obviously not new, but in the world of subeta and plots.. this was my mental image)

Didn't you know the only way subeta staff can ensure people will muttle through their plots is by always making sure to make at least one book (usually 3+) is in the top tier of prizes? Also usually a plushie and/or beanbag, and a wig, if they've done their job right. Otherwise they know no one will deal with the horrible lag/502s/48+ hour plot step waits/and then some.
I wish I was being sarcastic here, but I'm not. Basically every single plot subeta has ever done has had at least one book at the tippy-top of the prize pool. Usually a plushie too, and a super desirable wear. I'd love to see that not happen, because if I didn't have the time to partake in a plot (like some things I can do via mobile while I"m at break/lunch at work, but not everything and when I get home I can't really justify spending my evenings making plot points that may or may not amount to anything, as we've just learned with this fabulous BotB trainwreck).
But subeta basically punishes anyone who doesn't have time to devote to their plots (and sometimes punishes people who spend their time on the plot, just spent it poorly) by threat of collection based items.
My friend actually missed out on all the top tier prizes from the Saheric plot years ago because she didn't beat ONE challenger (the skeleton dude with a LAMP as a special loot) (I wish I was making that up, it was a lamp), and ended up having to pay something like 40+ million for one of the top books. She even dug in the sand more than me.
It was actually 75mil for that damn jfasdkfsd BUT YEAH BASICALLY IT WAS A LOAD OF BS. It wasn't even that I couldn't beat that battle opponent, mind you - I was just careless and somehow skipped it??? brb kicking myself in the arse q___q
And I was one of the luckier people, to even find that book for sale - very few ever hit the trades, and after the initial few sellers there were none. I think one copy appeared last year with a pricetag of 150-200mil, but I haven't seen one in ages.
Hello!
I was away from the computer yesterday and so unable to answer anything until today, but I’m here now and ready to respond to questions, suggestions and complaints!
I’m starting on this board as it’s smaller than the one in Site Feedback. I had a quick read through the first 2 pages of that on my phone yesterday, but didn’t get any further than that and will be reading it in full after this.
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to give feedback. I am reading and listening to everything that is being said here, and will take it on board for future events, Peka-Boo II or otherwise.
The way Battle of the Bands was set up, was based on a model that I had taken part in and enjoyed elsewhere. Getting into teams in order to work together to achieve an end goal - with only one team walking away with prizes, but each team along the way enjoying the ride anyway. I had changed this model immediately with the intention to give prizes for a host of other things along the way, but it appears that it was not quite enough!
I am going to talk with my colleague and programmer about achievements and forum titles - that is something that can be done as it requires no extra art. We’ll take a look at the numbers of items that have gone out again, but distributing more at this point is going to make people that have already bought high priced items upset. I’ll have to decide if that is worth it, at this point.
This was a fledgling event, and was the first of its kind in doing things this way. I definitely expected there to be kinks! But we now have a really good basis to make this better in the future.
Achievements we should certainly have: Making a band Joining a band
Since there were participation rewards promised at the stage where we just started creating bands, and there was no participation prize for making a band.
For all the rest i wouldn't say we really need more achievements. Winning bands probably got enough already/

any chance of a yurt type setup at MC price tags for basically the full cart of stuff that HnR supporters got for FREE be available for general public? If i have to pay buttload of sp for them anyway , i rather get them at a fixed price than at an ever fluctuating price.
Going on with comment, my first thought was a prize shop then I wondered if maybe the prizes would be in a sp shop since that was the other side of this event, buying things. You know, the winners help create an item, it gets drawn by staff, then released in a prize shop for sp with the winning band and supporters getting a copy (or two) free. Kind of like the CW contest but instead of course the staff artist drawing it.
The whole event basically boiled down to a sp sink in the first place. And yeah, if I have to pay through the nose for an item I'd rather have my sp go POOF instead of just giving it to someone else. coughsspsinkcough Give me a reason to actually spend my close to 2bil sp instead of holding on because I can't justify paying 500+mil to someone for something they got free. I'm not going to hold my breath though. At this point I kind of want a couple of the other prizes but as time goes on I'm getting to where it just pisses me off and I never want to see any of the items again. Should not have read that book to my pet now.

I like the idea that folks who put the effort into bands/bands that made finalis could get recognition for that.
I also agree we probably don't NEED more achievements, but I wouldn't mind a title or two.
Not a fan of the idea of a prize shop, if only because that crazy game was the only source for participation points. While I do think that work should be rewarded (14 hour game, holy cow) I feel that this year, I'm not sure a prize shop based on game participation points would work because the game scoring seemed so polarized. A few players would be able to buy out the store five times over, while the majority of users could afford a couple of things; I'm not sure if a reasonable exchange metric could be found.
Maybe next year, though.
I wouldn't mind a SP shop at extortonist rates, tbh
I mentioned this in the feedback forum, but
"We’ll take a look at the numbers of items that have gone out again, but distributing more at this point is going to make people that have already bought high priced items upset. I’ll have to decide if that is worth it, at this point."
Vanity, boutique, and hair coupons were re-added to the CS, even though people paid a lot for them before that. This is no different. You need to fix this.
Honestly, who thought it was a good idea to distribute items this way in the first place?
[edit] Also "Maybe next year, though." Please no. This was a disaster from start to finish. If something like this ever happens again, I'm going to vomit all over this site.
What about the users who don't care about achievements or forum titles? This is why I think achievements should be known right up front. If I go into an event being told "prizes" and only get an achievement for my hard work... blegh. Who actually will go through someone else's ach. later on to see exactly what they won? (In fact the only reason I would look at ach. is to see if a user is still active on site or not and that would only be the most recent) But if I knew I'd get one from the start for my hard work, I probably wouldn't care if I got it or not.
At this point I feel like it's all "Damned if you do, damned if you don't." Just have a MC type shop. I would say 100mil+ but then you know where that would head.
Not saying I would buy anything because I'm closing in to the point where I'm tempted to ask if I can have those BotB books removed from my pet book lists.

Haha. Word. I'd be head-down in the stall next to yours if this kind of thing rolls around again.
I suppose I meant "Maybe next year though" as shorthand for "please god if we ever have an event similar to this or any event ever, actually, that someone please consider the cluster that this turned into and try not to replicate these problems, because I still have faith, somehow, that someday we will get an event that will end up fair and reasonable and with a prize tier that makes sense even though this event has obviously fallen well short of that mark."
I'd really like to see some titles at the very least awarded retroactively.
If the site is dumb enough to try to hold BotB again, I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
Probably gather all of you to make an anarchist band and hope we make it to finals so that we can set fire to all of Peka-Boo.
^ that would be one large band 8D hahaha I'll probably sit in a corner and eat popcorn and laugh maniacally, yep. B)
While I don't think an sp shop is the perfect fix, it's at least an sp sink, and I wouldn't be opposed to having one of those even if it means I'd have the prizes doubly haunt me. xD
I'd rather see EPICon again before this lame ass clusterfuck of an event
gdi, why do you sum up my train of thought better than i do?
Hell, I'd rather see SUMMER IN CENTROPOLIS again over this and I didn't like Summer in Centropolis much.
I was having computer problems and barely got to participate in Summer in Centropolis, and I'd still prefer to see it make a come back than this. 😏
Hey, I didn't know this was an opinion topic! Sweet, well let me give mine!
I loved the event. The theme color selection was amaze. I'm still a little sad my tshirt didn't make it to the CW contest finals but ahhh that's okay. The customized game was pretty good, I got a lot better towards the end there when I learned a few tricks (kudos to those who spent way too much time trying for that ungodly score). The BotB was really fun, it was exciting to see the "bands" get into character and the level of participation was to be proud of. Peka-Boo, ugh, fabulous. All of the new wearables and foods and just everything was fantastic. Wish I had hoarded more items to resell after the event, but alas. The food trucks? AWESOME. 100000x cooler because I just visited a food truck festival a few days before the event started and it was exactly how a real food festival is (45 minute wait BUT SO WORTH IT) the food art was FANTAAAASTIC. I participated in every aspect of the event (created a band but didn't pursue that very well haha). And Oatmeal. Cutie pie, you. I admit, I f5'ed 70 of my worries! x: I actually loved the wishing shrub as well especially after the changes (no CW, cancel wish after so long) and hope it would be a permanent fixture to the site (I'm sure aspects of it would need to change if it were a permanent thing)
Now, prize distribution for BotB was wacky for sure. Personally, I supported HnR and got a boat load of prizes (woot woot) but I do feel like others need to be rewarded a little more as well! I don't think I deserved the Granny Smith prizes but I'll take em? I'm glad staff is working on future distribution and rewarding top scorers and such in the meantime. They tried something new and it blew up in their faces a bit. You live, you learn.
Kudos to the staff.
And for the record, I've seen the same handful of people bitching posting about their dislikes so it's not hard to believe that more people enjoyed it than not.
