HEY i just wanted to revise my previous recommendation of the Spice Goddess -- it might be a show to be wary of, since I was watching the other day and she was teaching how to prepare lobster in the... you know, not so humane way. I've never seen anything like that on her show before, but it was pretty upsetting and unnecessary so I'll probably avoid watching now, which is a shame because I did like some of her recipes. 8(
Is Vegfest in Seattle like the Vegfest they hold in Washington DC? I went to the one in DC last year and I have to admit that I found it pretty disappointing. 8( There really wasn't that much good looking food at all, or anything else for that matter. I think I only tasted like, one sample the whole time too! Sounds like yours is a lot more fun. D;
I have no idea what the one in DC is like to compare, sorry. But the one in Seattle is really huge now and they have a ton of different vendors so there has always been plenty of stuff to try...some of it has not really been good at all but most of it is awesome. Either way, i appreciate the chance to try all these things...when they do suck, i'm just glad i didn't have to buy a whole package of it to find that out. XD I will admit i'm a fan of a lot of the products that some people might find too processed or junk-foodish. I don't eat them all the time, but sometimes i just really want some jerky or something, and i'm glad to have animal-free options available for that.
Oh, I know what you mean. I like some of that stuff sometimes too, if I'm being honest. :P That sounds like a super neat event though, so maybe the one I went to was just an off year or something like that.
- That sounds awesome! I live in Northern Ontario... our main... 'thing' here is mining, and then next to that is hunting. XP Unfortunately no Vegfest here, that I know of. But I am aware of the many vegans and vegetarians in my area, they have a page on FB and get together to have potlucks once a month, so that's a plus! :) Nice to see more people here, thanks for joining the ping group! :3
Ohh, interesting. Is there really a humane way to kill a lobster you're gonna cook to eat? x) I've always had trouble with that. I don't understand how they put a living thing into a boiling pot of water. It not only seems cruel, but is pretty disgusting. I mean, do lobsters have bowel movements? I know I'd have one if I was being placed into a pot of boiling water! :P
Well, again, thanks for dropping by, both of you! <3

It's too bad the DC event wasn't better...i hope you're right that it was just a bad year and that it has improved. If it's going to be a really lackluster event, they probably shouldn't even have it at all, lest they accomplish no more than to give people a negative impression of veganism. There are already too many people who think there's "nothing for us to eat" or that we only eat weird nasty new-age health food or something...lol (Like this "green smoothie" mix i tried at Vegfest once...slimy and gritty and tasted like grass...no thank you!)
That's awesome that at least there is a group there for you! Maybe eventually it can grow into a larger event but for now i bet the potlucks are nice. I've never actually attended one for various reasons but i kind of want to. I've gotta say you raise a couple of very good questions there about the lobsters! The second one falls into the "That's disgusting but a very good point!" category and i can't say i know how they react physiologically to being boiled alive, but as to the first question, i would unequivocally answer that No; there is no "humane" way to murder any animal. "Humane slaughter" is a contradiction in terms. It's like saying "humane slavery" or "humane rape"...just...no. o_O (By the way, i'm sure i'm preaching to the choir here and you only asked the question rhetorically, but i wanted to put that answer out there for anyone else who might be lurking.)
Just thought I'd pop in here, I'm not that active on this site but it's so awesome to see other vegans here! :) I've been vegan for almost two years now (and vegetarian for 13 years) The only thing I regret is that it took me so long to "wake up" to the realities of the dairy industry. I was a "cheese addict" for so many years and thought I could never give it up...but once I forced myself to look at the facts (both the extreme cruelty and the health issues) it was much easier than I thought (and now I'm addicted to Daiya vegan cheese, haha) I'm involved with a local animal rights group and attend as many demos, protests, etc that I can. Just went to a circus protest last night in fact; we had an awesome turn out. :D
Anyways I just wanted to say hi to everyone here! I have quite a few vegan and animal rights resources on my profile for anyone that's interested. :)
Hey all. No one's popped in for awhile so I thought I'd throw some new videos at you. :)
The Vegan Zombie's newset recipe videos ----> Click for the cuteness!
Annnd, another wee doc video I came across on YouTube ----> Click Me! I'm Informative! It's about 30 mins long and, I am assuming, comes from England (accents tell you so much!).
So, I know most of you know this stuff already, but you can also, as I say, 'revive' your vegan knowledge of happiness and cruelty free-ness! :D
Hope you all are having a great day! Take Care. ❤
Also: Pic of cuteness!

Awwwwwww. <3

Oh hi! I kind of lost this link. :)
I was just thinking about this group the other day because I saw the most dreadfully sad documentary of inhumane practices at large animal production places/meat plants. It made me thankful that I choose not to be a part of those kinds of things as much as possible.
Also, I am so excited about growing my garden again this year. Nothing like home grown produce to cook with! :D

Hello! I totally missed this comment. So nice to hear from you, and I checked out your profile... you are awesome! I feel guilty, as, the only form of action I take is what I eat. I would love to do more. I am in Canada however and would have to find out what is going on locally around me. You are reminding me of the video I just came across on Youtube recently of Gary Yourofsky (Link to videos below) Thank you for sharing. And if you haven't already, you should join our ping group! So you can drop by and share more! Tell us what you're up to and what kind of activist opportunities might be coming up! As well as give us recipes, and such that you come across, and at the same time, hear about what we have to share. ^_^ And, I know what you mean by becoming addicted to Daiya. I have gained so may 'addictions' for different foods in the past 4 months alone, it's crazy! Currently, avocado and, something that I never thought would happen, Nutritional yeast! I sprinkle it on everything now, from stir frys to salad and even soup before I eat it! x)
Hey hun! ^_^ Nice to hear from you. Do you mind if I ask what doc it was? I just recently found this ---> Gary Yourofsky (and follow upQ&A video). Even though it's like 3 years old, I just watched it for the first time a week ago. I wish I had seen it when it first came out!
And oooh, gardeny goodness! What kinds of things will you be planting? Excited to hear about it! ^_^

I'd never seen The Vegan Zombie before, thanks for sharing that! I get the feeling I'm gonna be checking out a lot more of his videos soon. The creamy kale salad looks delicious (only kale can save us now - http://www.herbivoreclothing.com/search.php?search_query=kale&x=0&y=0 :D !)
I'm not familiar with any vegan/AR groups in Canada offhand but I'm sure there are many. I've been busy since my last post, attended an Earth Day festival where our group had up a display about veganism (and a Paid-to-View stand) you can read more about how that went here if you like: http://wahyawolf.deviantart.com/art/Earth-Day-Festival-PAVA-Stand-367279269 Just this past Sunday I went to the first vegan meet up of the season at Wedrose Acres Animal Sanctuary (http://www.wedroseacres.org/) There were so many awesome people, adorable animals (all of whom have been rescued from various situations) and loads of mouth watering food! The fruit pizza, omg...I shouldn't talk about this stuff at this hour, I'll end up late night snacking. XD
I can't watch those kinds of videos anymore...I've seen my share of them and I'm thankful that I was exposed to them (they're what made me vegan) but I can't stand to watch them these days. During the earth day festival when we had people watching Mercy for Animals Paid-to-View video I occasionally looked over my shoulder to see the person's reaction to what they were watching (pure horror every time) and would catch a glimpse of the graphic footage playing, makes my skin crawl. For those of us "already there" there's no need to torture ourselves with what we already know and refuse to be a part of, but it can be a huge wake up call for non-vegans...sure was for me!
PS Have any of you seen VeganSmyth on YouTube? I can't get enough of him, his songs are both hilarious and thought provoking..."Where Do You Get Your Protein?" is my favorite. XD Watch him here: http://www.youtube.com/user/VeganSmythe
Wow, you guys paid people to watch a video! That is brilliant! x) I've been thinking of doing that with my daughter, she has gone vegetarian, but I 'm hoping she'll take that extra stretch to vegan someday! You are doing such great things.I applaud you! ^_^ And oh my gosh, I love showing new people to the Vegan Zombie! He's got such great stuff and he's just so fun to watch! I hunt down tonnns of recipes on a daily basis that is how I came across his stuff. And, it helps that I like zombie shtuff too! :D
And, cute 'Kale Can Save Us!' page. Speaking of clothes, I have always wanted this shirt!. I just find it so cute for some reason. But sadly they ship to the U.S. only! :P

Paid-Per-View is a campaign by Mercy for Animals, you can read more about it here: http://www.mercyforanimals.org/paid-per-view.aspx It's seriously one of the most powerful ways of getting the message across to people. We had about 24 people watch the video and almost all of them seemed VERY eager to give veganism an honest try afterwards (plus I'm sure the delicious free vegan cookies we were handing out was encouraging :D) And thank you, I just do what I can :)
That's great about your daughter :D I have a friend who recently went vegetarian and wants to make veganism her ultimate goal. For a long while there I was in denial about the dairy industry. I really didn't want to think it was just as bad as the meat industry because I was so addicted to cheese...but I finally forced myself to watch a few undercover videos, learn about the dairy/veal connection and wake up to how unnatural and unhealthy it is to be consuming milk meant for another species altogether. That was that...found my Daiya and chocolate almond milk and never looked back. XD
That shirt is adorable! Shame they only ship to the U.S :( Maybe they'll change that someday?
I saw that video on tumblr and started crying it was so perfect.
Yeah, that child is so sweet. ^_^ Did you ever read the comments on the bottom? Some people are so nasty. I don't understand the hostility. Some people just really don't want to eat living things, from a very young age. It''s not a big deal and nobody's business, I don't get it. Just live and let live is what I say!
Anyway, cute kid! :D

Yeah I saw the comments and they made me angry. Like the the guy who posted a pic of steak and then a vegetarian or vegan who was talking about how cooking meat makes him/her/hir salivate and how the steak looks good. Like Vegetarians or vegans with that mindset are reasons why no one takes us seriously.
Oh, that doesn't bother me so much. I just don't get the general hostility is all. I don't push my shit on anybody, I don't see why they feel the need to is all.

That kid is absolutely brilliant. He gave me a little bit of renewed hope for humanity. Then i read a bunch of the comments and that was the end of that. XP I don't know why i still read comments on videos; they are always crap. But that kid is still amazing; thanks for posting the vid! =D (Octopuses are some of my favorite animals too so that was an extra bonus for me that he began to contemplate all of this because of octopus on his plate...a lot of people only care about the cute, furry land mammals, if any animals at all...)
