Forgive me if this is in the wrong area somehow or if someone has already had this question answered somewhere (I looked but didn't find anything in the FAQ or the rules).

Anywho, I was wondering whether or not a person who refers another user will get punished if that new user turns out to be problematic. I have been referring a handful of new users lately, but I can't always make sure that they'll follow the rules or be generally good quality new members. If a new user lists me as the person who referred them but ends up breaking rules/getting frozen/etc., then will I be held accountable for their actions as well? I would hate to be punished if someone listed me as a referral and then did something bad that I would not do or approve of myself.

it is my personal belief that everyone is responsible for their own actions here on Subeta. I also think that Subeta likes users who make referrals, because this is how the site can expand and grow.

But for an issue this serious, you should file a Ticket in Help to be doubly sure. It's not likely you will be told anything detailed about how moderation happens here, but they may be able to reassure you one way or another.

The only punishment you face with the referral system is if there's an exorbitant number of sign ups using your name. Then again in the few cases that were frozen odds were it was easy to track that abuse down to them using the same computers over and over (so cheating). If your new sign ups are coming in from say a blog post or FB thing you do that will show because each new user will have their own computer.

As for being held responsible for their actions? You are not and will not be held responsible. Each user is their own person, so if the person who last joined using your UN as referral like say found a glitch to gain sp at a 10x faster rate than usual, that wasn't legit, THEY would be in trouble not you. That'd be like saying a friend of a crime causer, who may never have done bad in their life, had to get some punishment due to what the crime causer did. You are bringing people to the site, not controlling their actions.

Yeees, the chance of someone saying to themselves "if one referral is good I SHOULD GIVE HER A THOUSAND" is what concerns me most. Like obviously I stress the importance of someone only making ONE account wherever I post the link, but if a random person who means well or ill tries to boost me up/hurt me for fun then I'd freak if I got frozen for it.

Well IF that ever happened you can always show staff where you post the link. Also there's the fact each computer on the internet has it's own id so to speak and they can find out where the mass amount comes from, hence why the few abusers have vanished.

As for me the regular ol' dumb user, I am glad you are having fun here and are referring people to come and play with us. It's lots of fun and days when there are 2000+ people on at once can be pretty interesting so the more the merrier.
