Keeping their kids locked in a moldy room with little access to food, water, and proper healthcare here

This is fucking disgusting. And they only got 3 years, 4 months and 5 years in prison? People are given life in prison for having a small amount of weed on them. The justice system needs to be revamped in this country because this is un-fucking-acceptable.

And shit like this is even worse when you're related to someone who got life for no good fucking reason.

Where do you live that you get life in prison for a small amount of weed?

Holy cow I have friends who play games for days on end, but I couldnt ever imagine something like this. Maybe they shouldve thought about whether to have kids or not a little more?

And I agree with you 100% It needs to be revamped, but will it happen? I highly doubt it. I feel like police officers should be spending their time going after people who are actually harmful to society, not people that have just an ounce of weed on them. The jails are already over crowded.

Its like that in most of the country because its still illegal in many places. If you have even an ounce on you, you can get into a TON of trouble unless you have your medical marijuana card. Even then you can only have a certain amount, and if youre over that amount you get into a lot of trouble.

I live in the North East US. You can get into a lot of trouble for having a large amount on you, but you won't get anywhere near life.

I also just looked it up by state. The most jail time you can get in the US for marijuana is 15 years which would be for: Massachusetts - selling over 1,000 lbs of it. Michigan - for cultivating and selling it.

I live in the North East US too. I know the laws aren't as harsh up here, but Ive seen random articles from all over the country where someone got into a load of trouble over a small amount. I believe it was in the South though in the Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama area. I wish I could remember what news sites they were on so I could like them.

In Maine if you are in Portland you are only allowed to have up to 2 ounces, but the rest of the state you cant have any on you except again if you have a medical marijuana card.

I just edited my previous post. But yeah you can get into serious trouble for it. But 15 years is no where near life in prison. Unless you are like 60 when you get arrested. Then it may be the rest of your life.

I looked up some of the laws for the US, and you are right. I know you get into more trouble if like you said you have a large amount, or you are growing it or importing it across borders. Now that I think about it I believe the article was about this guy was caught with a large amount and ended up in a big police chase across the country. They eventually caught him and he got into a huge amount of trouble because he crossed many state lines.

The average small time dealer would probably only get like 5-7 years. While someone who just uses would only get a year after multiple offenses. So while obviously going to jail for something stupid like smoking would suck, its no where near as bad as OP is implying.

Its sometimes hard to know because jail times can sometimes vary source to source. I do know that some Asian and European countries have some of the harsher laws when it comes to marijuana.

Yeah but the article OP posted was from the US (I think?) So OP was talking about the legal system also in the US.

Thats true, but I do see her point though. Sometimes people who do the smallest things get into more trouble than people who actually endanger others safety.

We have kids who drive drunk on my college campus all the time and get off with a slap of the wrist. However a friend of mine and her boyfriend got arrested this past semester when she was crying too loud in her dorm room after she lost her mother this past winter.

I know what I said is far from true crimes, but its the best comparison I could think of.

Its because punishments and enforcement of laws arent set in stone. While there are guidelines for it, its always to the officer's/judge's discretion. And its one thing to get arrested and another to actually be charged. Im sure they didnt throw her in jail/make her pay a fine.

My friends were actually in jail overnight. Over my friend finally releasing emotions over her mother she held in for the longest time. They gave my friends multiple bruises on their arms and my friend, the girl, had a severe concussion from when an officer threw her on the ground when she didnt step out of his way in time when they pushed themselves into the room. They were charged with assault of an officer, and resisting arrest when none of that was true. The charges were dropped thankfully.

Campus police are the worst. They take stupid things super seriously, and then things they should be taking seriously go right out the window.

I know. Security claimed that my friend (the guy) was physically abusing my other friend (the girl). They claimed thats where her bruises and concussion came from. Not the city police. Another friend of mine had a restraining order against a guy who used to go to school here, and they did nothing to enforce it. Our campus security here is worthless.

Hm... what did they do? A lot of folks say someone they care about is being unfairly punished, but a lot of the time the punishment is just. Same with how most people hate cops only because they don't like getting caught for doing something wrong.

Also a lot of people judge an entire force based on bad interactions with a few. There are good cops and bad cops. I've met both. I'm not about to say all are good, but I'm also not stupid enough to say all are bad.

I will love you forever if you trade me:

...He was guilty by association a robbery/homicide at a gas station. He had no idea what his friend was planning, and when he saw what was happening, he ran. He turned himself in the next day - and my mother had to drive him to the station. The cops interrogated him without a lawyer present, lied to him and my mother, and to make an example of him, he was sentenced to life in prison. Do you get that? He fucking got LIFE IN PRISON just because he was there.

I have three memories from being three years old and one of them is him coming out of the courtroom in orange with manacles on even though he tried to hide it from me. He saw my life in small bursts every time we came to visit. He missed every single one of my birthdays, Christmas, all my plays and shows, my graduation, and pretty much guaranteed he's gonna miss my college graduation too - I'm going to the same university he did. He's very proud. ^_^ But that's just how it's affected me. I haven't even mentioned his mother, father, our brother, or his son.
