I love older things too! When I got my apartment I bought all my furniture and misc. stuff from thrift stores and re-purposing stores. I spent no more than a couple hundred on a house full of stuff... works great, looks great, and was cheap! I'm glad most people are too pretentious to buy used things... leaves the best stuff for us who appreciate it ^.^
My parents had a microwave that was older than me for a time, though it died a few years ago so I finally beat it!

I've no problem with older things, really. But lately my (automatic) jalousie was broken and the electritian just said "What? Older than 10 years? Well... that's a problem...". And it actually was a huge problem. It's like when you have an older house just everything seems to be a problem (at least if it's broken).
I was born in 1984. My Sharp microwave was from 1985. I literally grew up with it lol. I gave it away a few years ago (because of the huge size), but from what I hear it's still working!! It should be donated to the Smithsonian :p
I go to a lot of estate sales and just got a 1985 slow-cooker. It's the perfect size and works great...as are most other new-old stock vintage items I buy. Even used vintage stuff is better than the current stuff they make. I think the '80s is really the last decade where things were manufactured and meant to last. My hair crimper is from 1986.
I get told a lot to use these things at my own risk (duh) and you're never sure if something from decades ago had a recall. I had 2 ricecookers from this decade that went on fire so whatever haha.
