Hey guys update time for my first week! Right now I'm pretty ouchy because I got in a scooter accident two days ago and have scrapes and bangs everywhere and stitches in my chin. But that's the only bad news!

The traveling wasn't too bad until we got the bus from Antananarivo to nosy be - that bus took 17 hours with no space! The place where we stay I sort of expected to suck since its a volunteer camp in a third world country but it is...paradise guys. Seriously. It's GORGEOUS. We have this massive communal deck house thing on a cliff that overlooks our OWN cove and beach and our bungalow things have one wall open but it faces the cove with a patio thing so it's lovely. We just use nets.

The lemurs here are super adorable and really interesting to watch! We record stuff like how they react in comparison to us and tourist groups and their interactions with each other, comparing the groups that live around villages to ones that live in the mountains. Is about 40 min hike to the village ones and 1.5hour hike to the mountain ones. The walks are beautiful though and the locals here are the friendliest I think I've ever met :) really loving it here even though I'm out of action for a few days - but I am not going to sit still for long as I must go see my precious baby lemurs.

Hope everyone is good, I'm heartbroken to hear about our sweet Hope but thank goodness she's not in pain anymore. My thoughts to her, her family and all of those who love her and will miss her dearly.

& wow, your own cove and beach! That sounds amazing. When I went to Greece, all of the cabins just used nets as well, with only the back wall being an actual wall. Perhaps the is the norm XD

General update since its been ages: Madagascar still freaking rocks and I want to live here forever. My injury in the accident has sort of been a blessing in disguise as it kept me from going to the totally wild lemur group that we study and only looking at the three groups around the villages- but this has led to me becoming really familiar with these groups and the guides and I can now identify lots of them from each other which is more impressive than it sounds considering all the males are fully black and the lemurs all go streaking across the trees to tourist groups...so when they all run you tend to lose track of who is who a bit but being able to identify some lets me know the others through process of elimination! They're my babies and I am going to SOB when I have to go.

I've been doing lots of fun things recently as we'll like snorkelling at a little island known for sea turtles about 40 min away from our island - I organised a trip for camp with the guy who takes us to the bigger island on weekends and stuff and he took us over and fed us an amazing banquet for the equivalent of like $9. There were lemurs and flying foxes there too. Then a few days ago I did the nocturnal hike for reptile surveys which was amazing but oh my god I have never sweated so much in my life. I was a river and it was gross. It was a two hour hike uphill in humid jungle and we died a bit. When we got to the top of the mountain we slept in the village church and our guides family cooked awesome food for us, we rested for a bit and then did a three hour night hike where we saw tons of epic stuff that you don't see anywhere else in the world.

The people here are the friendliest I have ever met and even being in the forest or on camp a lot of the time you get to know lots of the villagers, but this Friday was the first time I got to interact lots with the kids, we have a monthly Conservation day for ALL the children in the island (150 or so) and we do presentations, posters, plays and games with them. Now I'm not great with kids but it was amazing, they all just pile onto your lap and cling to you and it's so endearing. Our play went down amazing with them and I was on the Pin the tail on the lemur and Dancing stations. It was almost as exhausting as the night hike but I really loved it!

Lots of people left this weekend and it was really sad but we have a new bunch coming in tomorrow so I am excited. Also I may have a job lined up here for after uni oh my god. It's a six month internship where I would lead a conservation project and attempt to get published - more news on this later!

Madagascar was the best time of my life guys. I can't even bring myself to write out all my stories because the words will just not do it justice in the slightest. You all just have to go visit it yourselves haha! The lemurs were my babies, I heard that they sulked after I left and wouldn't come down from the trees for two days!
