Hello! I happened upon the Alcove, but said only zombies were allowed. I heard alchemy is done there. Could someone who knows more about it please explain to me what that's all about? Like, what alchemy does, and how to do it with the place closed? I'd really appreciate it :)
You use alchemy to create items. It takes an Alchemy Token and a Tincture, and if its a clothing item, a Layer Card.
You can find a list of items, and the recipes, at an offsite place like SubetaLodge, alchemy list.
As to how to do it, you have several options. One is to ask an existing zombie for help (check the advertising forum).
The other is to take a zombie potion, these will turn you into a zombie for about 2 weeks. Once you take the potion, it will take about 3 or 4 days before you can enter "zombie only areas." Then you will be able to go to the zombie den, make alchemy items, etc, for a week or so, then you will heal. You would want to do this only after collecting alchemy tokens, tinctures and layer cards, which you can do as a human (from the Philosopher's Store).
The potions are:

Zombies are people like myself that were infected in previous years by a virus that destroys our HA and gives us special access to Skitter's Shop, Zombie Den and the Alchemy Alchove.
For the Zombie Den every year has new items. Since I was infected in 2011, I can buy stuff from 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.
You can take a ttemporary infection which takes a few days to develop and then disappear from your HA. [Url=http://www.subetalodge.org/list_all/notes/Drinkable]This is a list and HA Preview[/url]. When you fully develop you will have a few days access to the 2014 items.
For the Alchemy you can either restock the items (tokens, tincture, layer cards) or buy from user shops.
A zombie then takes them to the Alchove where following a specific formula will give you an item.
For each item you need a token. Some tokens are [item=Alchemy Token: Bean Bag] [item=Alchemy Token: Book] [item=Alchemy Token: Decal]
If you give the token alone you get a random item from that pool. But if you add a tincture you ate guaranteed to get a specific color. The issue is sometimes there are more than one item with the same color. Then you have to risk it.
For example: [item=Alchemy Token: book] + can give any of the following [Item=blue book of the undead]
With wearable, in addition to tincture and a token you can use a layer card to pick a specific layer ([item=layer card: chest] [item=layer card: ground] [item=layer card: head])
If the combo doesn't exist (like there are no shoes yet, or green and purple stickers) you get an error and ingredients back. C: let me know if any thing is unclear
[Edit] 2slow sorry :p
Basically you combine a tincture, like , + a token, say [item=alchemy token: plushie], to get a new item.
You get the tinctures and the tokens from The Philosopher's shop.
Here is a recipe list so you can get an item of what makes what.
To become a zombie, you just need one of the vials (Bulbous, Creeping, Stinging, Lotus, or Vaguely Sticky) from this past Survival event. It takes about a week or so to reach it's final stage, but then you'll be able to not only make items at the Alcove, but buy things from the Zombie Den (only year 2014 items though).
Just so you know, they make you look pretty ugly
I hope that helps! :)
[edit]LOL ALSO TOO SLOW
, , Thank you very much! This really helped. I wondered what those layer cards were for. Never seen tinctures though. But I guess before any of that I'll have to read a top of books to my pet.
EDIT: HOLY! When you said it was ugly you meant it! goes to wash eyeballs
No, your pet doesn't need intelligence to use the Alchove.
Intelligence is used to make spell scrolls. These are used in battle. Your pet needs Alchemy Points to learn spells and cast them in battle.
I know, its a bit confusing since they talk about alchemy ingredients, from Spells Galore, and how many alchemy points your pet needs. Spells scrolls are created at the Secluded Shrine, but you won't be able to see the spells until your pet has enough intelligence to make them.
You can find a list of spells here.

There are some tinctures in the philosopher's shop right meow! Go stock up! ^.^
I've made a spell before (was kind of disappointed, but that's what I get or low intelligence). I'm glad alchemy doesn't take alchemy points. But I still need a lot of books :)
I shall! =D
LOL yep, that's true, we all need really smart pets!

I know we need intelligence for spells. And there are achievements for reading books. Do we also need intelligence for battling?
Int doesn't directly affect battling, but the more APs your pet has, the better the spells they can cast, and the more they can equip. Many of the higher level, much better spells can only be used once in a battle, so you want to be able to equip several.

I see. So it's like mana in MMORPGs? We need dem alchemy points to craft the spells, and when we do, the points are gone. Are the points also used up when the ready spells are equipped/used?
No, the APs don't get used up in crafting spells. They only get used up when you equip spells, and you can unequip spells, get the APs back, and put in different ones depending on who/what you are battling (if you get into battling that much). When you cast spells during battle, you don't use up the points either, you can cast every round as long as you have at least one spell that is "infinite use." The only time the spell gets used up is when its "once per battle" - but you get the spell back at the beginning of your next battle.

Is that true? 0.o Because had exactly one alchemy point. Then I made a spell and I had 0. So I reached the conclusion that crafting the spells use up points.
That is odd. I've crafted many a spell scroll with my main pet who's never lost an alchemy point. If you go to the pet page, click on the drop down menu for your pet with the AP, then choose spells, you should get a box that shows which spells are equipped, and at the bottom it should say something like: 56/65 alchemy points used (LOL but with much smaller numbers). If you click the little x under a spell scroll it will put the scroll back in your inventory and decrease the APs used. If you have no spells equipped it will say 0/#, so that may be why you thought the pet had no points?
If it really has no points, you should probably file a ticket, because that would be a glitch.

I did that and it says "0/2 alchemy points used" (there are no spells equipped). This is all very confusing to me :/ By far the most complicated pet site when it comes to pet stats and their use, and also currencies. sigh
That's correct, it means that you have 2 alchemy points and you haven't used any, so you can equip any spell that needs 1 or 2 APs. Your pet hasn't lost any points.
Yeah, its complicated in part because they had some ideas about how they were going to use stats, and put a training system in place before they finished the battle system. So its kind of backwards. They've also made quite a few changes to the battle system over the years, but had to maintain the stats system because otherwise it would have negated the time and money spent in training that all the users had put in.
As for the currency issues, I made a Currency Guide last year. I didn't quite finish it, and before I could finish it, they changed things again. I never updated it or finished it (the candy hearts section is incomplete, the quest point system isn't included, and the Epicon points system was changed), but most of it still applies if you want to take a look at it. Its in the old forums and hasn't been transferred to the new system. If I ever do go back to it, fix it up and update it I'll recreate it from scratch.

I just read that guide, and it's definitely useful! So many currencies! One of the reasons I never played till now was not knowing where to get them all. Thank you again for your help. You're an angel :)
Anytime. LOL I'm no angel, that thing there, not a halo, just a UFO hovering over my head.
