hmm a lot of the videos i've been watching of the people using them use a special protective glove. And I've also seen videos where they mention that the tablet needs to be calibrated in order for it to run smoothly. But it definately sounds like something to look into before its decided (my birthday isnt till december anyway). Thanks for bringing it to my attention ^^
You should do tons of USD commishes so you can afford what you want :o I have the bamboo fun and it's kinda giving me problems... it decides to not be pressure sensitive sometimes and sometimes I have to reboot the computer for it to work. I don't know if it's like the normal Bamboo or what?
It depends on what you're using the tablets for.
If you want to make digital art a career, MAYBE get the Intuos now. If you're actually going into the market anytime soon, that is.
But if you're just a hobby artist, I'd recommend the Bamboo. I personally haven't heard any of these horror stories about it messing up? Only thing I heard is that it's prone to being delicate when dropped/etc (but the how crap do you DROP a TABLET?). My own Bamboo I've owned for a year or so, it gets daily use, but it's still practically new.
Princess: XD I'm trying to! But its finding people willing to commission for USD thats hard. On top of the fact i have really low prices for VERY MANY hours of work. I've been working myself into the ground with both my art and jewelry. I have to cater for what people would be willing to spend and still people are saying they can't afford the prices X_X (they're on my profile if you wanna see what I mean. I personally think they are way more then fair for buyers considering the amount of effort work and detail I put in ;-; )
Snuffs: Thanks snuffs ^^ Yesh :3 the cintiq looks amazing :3 though I'm going to have to look into what kurishu said before i make a decision.
Akuda: Oh i am going into a graphic design course on july 20th. My portfolio was accepted and i just have to hand in my enrollment forms ^^ I'm also very serious about my art and wanting to improve. I can't live without food, water, air and drawing so i believe it would be a fantastic investment. I really do hope to try and go professional ^^ Well i have the thirst for it anyway :)
One big thing about getting a Intuos4 is you won't have to update for a few more years. It's fresh out, the bamboo is NOT. I'm with you on getting into the industry. On that sediment, I'd certainly reason that getting something new, you might as well go up-to-date as well. As the new Photoshops come out, they'll be utilizing the new lines increasingly more.
Also, with the intuos4 medium and larger, you get really cool LED buttons that help a ton and a touch wheel that actually works. :D Always nice to have that. Just keep in mind as well that the Intuos4 is made with the upcoming PS CS versions in mind. That being said, some functions just don't work as they should outside of the newer CS (I've had to work around that a whole lot... but I started on GIMP (which I can no longer use, at least not till they update it...) and I've now had to move on to PS Elements7)
I gotta say, I'm lovin mine. It installed properly from the CD, quickly, and is quite sturdy. Plus, always gotta love Wacom's customer care. :3
USD commissions right now are hard for anyone cause USD is getting scarce. Tight times all around it seems :( But, I suppose it's all to appreciate the good in life... Personally, I think that the really good artists around here that do prefer USD still don't ask enough for it. I know how long it takes to turn out something of that caliber (30-40 hours) and that's worth way more than what they get for it! Minimum wage where I live is $6.55. Times that by 30 and you get... do the math... $196.50. A whole weeks worth of work. Now, for those who have a life outside of art, this could be a month or more worth of working. For those full time artists, that isn't near enough to pay the bills.
Just sayin. Toxy, don't feel bad about your prices.
ick, bamboos are grosss lol thats the one I have
I used to share an old graphire with my sister lol; my bamboo is PRACTICALLY THE SAME. but it's glitchier and the pen is fat and bulky. all my friends have intuos 3 ; ;
so like, just in case you were still looking LOL; don't get bamboo.
GO CINTIQ ..... OMG* GASP * CHEER*
I have a bamboo fun... it's nice. Cintiq is obviously better in every possible way though.
I've heard tons of great things about Intuos. Not so much about Bamboo but if people are saying it's glitchy I wouldn't get it. Though if you can get the Cintiq, totally go for it! :)

Gotta see if i can afford to pay the extra money i will need for the cintiq as my parents wont be covering all of it ^^'
Thank you XD lol i definately dont think a bamboo is on the cards
I don't really like the idea of cintiq's, but that's just because I prefer looking at my computer screen while I draw. I use a bamboo and it's really good but the intuous is heavenly. It's the cream of the crop, really. What professionals use.
Edit: And, seeing as I use a bamboo, I'd like to add that it's not really glitchy. I've used it a while and I haven't had a single problem with it. Bamboo fun, that is.
the cintiq and an intuos do the exact same thing, and the only ones who truly need those are professionals - and from those professionals I personally know, a cintiq is more of a time waste unless it's an absolute necessity. otherwise, a tablet's far more versatile. I recommend you hold off on shelling out 1.2k on that, and just buy a 300 tablet, then put the rest of the money to good use. like perhaps going to art classes that could help you better yourself and such. which, if you want to get into the industry, will help you far more than a very expensive machine that also happens to be very complicated.
