Sergei smiled when Harper introduced him to Laurel. He moved his arm up to wave towards Laurel, keeping his elbow attach to the table. Then, he let his arm and hand fall back down. His head turn to Harper when she asked him a question. "Uh, sort of. Still deciding if there's anything in this book that might be useful," he smirked and looked down towards the book in front of him. "Of course, I'll have to check it and carefully read through it since there's a lot in here."
He then looked over towards Laurel. Sergei wondered if this guy was going to be going on the mission. He wasn't sure if he should ask. After a few seconds of hesitating, he decided to ask. "Will you be going next week on the mission?" Sergei couldn't remember if Laurel was at the meeting earlier or not since he didn't really pay attention to anyone he didn't know. Except Harper. But only because she was sitting near Vaughn.
-OOC- Wicker already quit the RP! I think?
I'm sure someone quit some RP. XD
((Yeah, Wicker quit...but you shouldn't! There's still stuff going on in the library...I'm kind of thinking of maybe time-warping us to the day of the mission considering not a whole lot's been going on...what do you think?))
OCC: Wicker quit? Darn, Nellie and Bo were getting along so well.
(( ooc: Aw, going to miss Sergei's bday xP Haha. Oh well, nobody has to know :P A time warp would be cool...especially seeing how it took 11 pages of roleplay for just a couple of hours to pass. It would take forever for several days to pass if we didn't do a time warp xD ))
((...yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking ^^ this RP is moving too slowly at the moment. Alright, time warp to one week from last post. And for the sake of convenience I'm going to have Vaughn and Harper rooming together before the mission...))
Vaughn didn't sleep a wink the night before they left for the mission. She had tried to sleep, paced the room anxiously, read over her folder and many of her books, but she just couldn't sleep. Eventually she just sat on her bed and stared at the ceiling, waiting for it to be time to go.
Harper, on the other hand, slept like a log, as per usual. She was not one to let the stresses of life get in the way of her sleeping schedule and this was no exception. She was still breathing deeply and evenly when Vaughn got up and opened the blinds, letting in the light of a beautiful day in late spring. It was 8:30 and they had to meet in the lobby at 10. It was time to get ready.
Their bags were already packed and waiting by the front door, but Vaughn needed to shower and dress, plus pack all the stuff she had taken out of her bags during the night. She walked to the bathroom and flipped on the light, staring at the mirror for just a moment. This was the last time she would see herself in this room for who knew how long. It was difficult to think that in under a day she would be in the Soviet Union performing a dangerous mission for the government. She still wasn't entirely clear on what that mission was. She turned away from the mirror and went to take a shower.
When she was done with her shower she got out and woke up Harper, who was not happy to be shaken awake so early. Granted 9 was not particularly early, but Harper hadn't had any classes so she hadn't any need to wake up before 10. She got up and took a shower while Vaughn dressed and packed the rest of her stuff.
When the two girls were finally ready, it was 9:40. They made their way down to the lobby and sat in two squishy chairs by the near wall. There were only a few other hybrids there, plus Dr. Shyr. She sported a low ponytail and sweatpants with sneaker, and carried a blue duffel bag. Everyone looked anxious, excited, tired, and wary. Vaughn figured many of them had gone with little to no sleep that night as well.
All that was left to do now was wait for the others and then they would be out the door and on a plane to an entirely new life.
Sergei laid in his bed, his eyes open. He had been awake for almost half an hour now, but was too lazy to get out of bed. He went to bed late last night, but had woken up early. He wasn't even this excited the night before his 18th birthday two days ago. It was finally the day he would get out of here. He stared at the alarm clock that sat next to his bed. 8:28. Two more minutes and his alarm would go off. He waited. When it finally started buzzing, he hit the off switch and threw off his cover. Sergei sat up and looked over towards Bo's bed. Still sleeping. Never an early bird. Sergei slid off his bed and made his way into the bathroom for his morning routine.
By nine, he was ready and fully dressed. He wore dark navy blue jeans held up by a brown leather belt. He had on a white long sleeve cotton shirt and layered on top of it was a black t-shirt with a two blue stripes going around each sleeve and a blue stripe near the stomach area. He had on matching white socks and black kicks with white shoelaces.
Sergei sat down on his bed. A black JanSport bag and a matching backpack sat on the end of the bed. He looked over to his digital alarm clock to check the time. 9:20. Still a little early. He had to be in the lobby by 10. He decided to wait a little before heading down there.
When it hit 9:45, Sergei grabbed his bag and backpack and headed out the door. He made his way down the hall. When he reached the lobby, he scanned the area and saw that a couple of others were already there. "Harper, Vaughn," he greeted as he approached the two girls. He stayed standing, dropping the bag in his hand down next to him. "Sleep well?", he asked, directing his question at both the girls.
Vaughn and Harper both smiled as Sergei approached, but Vaughn was first to speak. "Harper here slept like a log. I had to shake her awake this morning." She gave a tired sigh. "I, on the other hand, didn't get a wink of sleep last night."She shook her head. "How about you?"
Harper fiddled with the hem of her eggplant-colored t-shirt before remembering something. She hadn't seen Sergei in a few days, so she hadn't had a chance to give him the birthday present she'd made. She shoved her large bag aside and pulled the smaller one onto her lap. She unzipped the smallest pouch and felt inside until her fingers touched metal. "Hey Sergei, I missed you on your birthday and I didn't get to give you your gift."
She produced a metal pin, roughly 2 inches long and half an inch wide. It was a polished copper color and bore the title 'commander' in gold plating. She held the pin out for Sergei to inspect.
Vaughn leaned in, sorry she hadn't made anything for Sergei. There was hardly any opportunity to buy anything for anyone, but making things was not uncommon. One of the nicer things the facility did was to announce, every morning, the birthdays of that day. That was probably how Harper knew, plus she didn't have classes so she had a lot of free time on her hands during the day. All the rest of the hybrids had been expected to keep up with their work right up until the morning of the mission. Vaughn didn't really mind, though. It kept her from thinking too much about the mission and its implications.
Vaughn leaned back in her chair and surveyed the lobby again. She was so anxious to have everyone get there so they could finally leave.
Laurel rolled in-Or more to say was rolled in by Dr. Sabor. Dr. Sabor had decided that Laurel, whatever his role would be, would function better if he spent optimum time in the water, and so had placed him in a portable tank. As such, Laurel's bags were carried by Sabor's assistants. Laurel saw Harper and Sergei-And another girl who appeared to be a canine standing together. Laurel wasn't sure if he should wave them over or let them be-so he opted for the second one, seeing as how he was still eating breakfast.
((ooc: sorry, been busy. job hunting. ))
"Haha. Well, I got SOME sleep," he answered. "I didn't go to bed until late last night. Too excited to sleep. Mostly just laid in my bed. I fell asleep for a few hours but woke up early," he shrugged and then looked around the lobby. He looked back at Vaughn. She did seem a little tired. "Well, you can sleep on the plane," he smirked and then looked over to Harper when she mentioned his birthday.
His birthday was some days ago, but it hadn't really been a big deal. It had passed just like any other day except his name was mentioned on the announcements. Other than a few birthday wishes from Bo, Sorren, and some of his other friends, nothing much happened. Sergei was a little surprised that Harper had gotten him a gift. He hadn't seen her for most of the week. At least, not since he walked her back to her room. He did see at lunch the following day, but only briefly since he ate a quick lunch. He had been busy with schoolwork. "Oh wow, Harper, you didn't have to get me anything," he replied with the typical line a person would say when they recieved a gift. and looked down at the gift she held out. He took it and examined it. "Wow. Did you make this? It's awesome, thanks," he said happily. He attached the pin on the upper part of his left shirt sleeve. Typically, a person would wear a pin at the chest but he liked to wear his on his sleeve.
((That's alright, I understand.))
Harper watched Sergei accept the gift and pin it to his sleeve, smiling. "Nonsense. It was your birthday. And anyway, I needed to thank you for putting up with me on your library excursion last week. And yes, I did make it."
She turned to close her bag back up, setting it neatly on the ground when she was finished. She knew she hadn't known Sergei long, but he had been welcoming and for that she was grateful. The only other person she really knew was Vaughn, so it was nice to have more than one person to talk to.
Vaughn looked on until she heard odd noises entering the room. She looked and saw a hybrid she didn't know being...rolled into the lobby? He was in a great tank and a scientist was rolling him into the room. He looked over at them for a moment, but apparently he was in the middle of a meal so he stopped. She was curious.
Harper looked up and noticed the same thing. She smiled up at Laurel and waved, hoping to catch his attention.
Vaughn suppressed her laughter when Laurel climbed soggily out of his tank, landing with an audible squelching sound. Harper smiled and motioned for him to come talk to them.
"Hey, Laurel! So you're going on the mission, after all!" Harper called to him. "It's nice to see another familiar face. What are you going to be doing on the mission?"
Miah was seated in the corner. No one had noticed her again. Hopefully, no one will. Her ear tufts were twitching impatiently under her hair, but she showed no obvious signs of impatience.
Sorren jumped up, startled. Today was the day, and he had overslept. Of course, today had to be the day he oversleeps for the first time in two months. He fell as he scrambled off his bed. Glancing up, he saw that his roommate wasn't here again.
Nursing his knee, he threw open his closet door and grabbed the first sweatshirt and jeans he could find. At least he had packed his bag already. He grabbed that and as he passed the mirror, struggled furiously to flatten it. In half a second, he was out the door, his hair still a mess.
Sliding and jumping on the stairs wasn't too hard, but the place was so far away. He got there only a few minutes before ten, bursting in with a loud slam as he crashed into the door. Looking around embarrassed, he stumbled over to where Sergei, Vaughn, Harper, and another hybrid was. Greeting them, he noted how Sergei was matching and smirked.
Sergei greeted Laurel when he approached them. When Sergei was about to say hi, a loud crash came from the door. He turned his head and saw an embarrassed-looking Sorren. Sergei smiled. It wasn't a full smile, just a faint one. It was morning so Sergei was still a little tired. He heard Laurel ask Sorren who he was. Sergei was about to introduce Laurel to Sorren, but thought that Sorren would rather introduce himself. "You really know how to make an entrance, Sorren," he said and then added a "Good morning," after it. "Sleep well?," Sergei asked his friend.
"Oh, I'm Sorren, you?" he grinned at the hybrid, then turned to Sergei. "Thanks for the compliment. I did, but you look like you didn't."
He plopped into a seat and leaned back, stuffing a cookie into his mouth. He packed a small bag of it in his bag, knowing he'd need it.
A startled Nellie ran through the hallway, heading towards the hall where they would all meet to go on the mission. The girl had overslept, and was now in a hurry. Silent tears poured down her face as she ran through the hallway, then stopped in front of the hall door.
Bo had left. He was gone forever, and she didn't even get to say goodbye. He wasn't going on the mission, and he wasn't in their warrior group anymore. It just plain sucked for the poor girl.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, Nellie blinked, sending the tears away, then walked into the hall when she was sure that no one would be able to figure out that she had been crying.
Her eyes first rested on Miah, who was sitting alone. Deciding to sit by someone quiet that day, she slid into a seat by her, stifled a greeting, and pulled her hat down further over her ears. She wasn't having a good day.
Spyder, however, was perfectly happy, sitting alone a few seats from Laurel. She fingered absentmindedly with the corner of her jacket and waited for the show to get going.
"Only got a couple of hours of sleep this morning. Too excited, I guess," he replied to the weasel hybrid.
Sergei sighed, turning away from Sorren and noticed that Nellie had came in. Sergei wasn't sure whether or not to go over and say hi. Although Nellie looked fine from Sergei's standpoint, he knew she was upset about Bo not coming along. Who knows when they'll be back...if ever. Sometime, during midweek, Sergei's roommate had told him that he declined on going. Even though from the start, he had was indifferent about going, it still surprised Sergei.
Sergei sighed, still looking over towards Nellie. She appeared normal, which gave Sergei some relief. However, she didn't look like she was in a great mood either. As far as Sergei knew, she wasn't in his group. She was sitting next to another person, who he didn't know. He wanted to go over to say a quick hello, but wasn't sure if he should. Instead, he just waved over to her, smiling.
Sergei was getting a little hungry. He hadn't caught breakfast. He looked over towards a wall clock to read the time. Guess he'll have to eat on the way there. The young man stretched his arms a little and then let them fall to his side.
Harper smiled at everyone, though she didn't know most of them very well. She was surprised at how many people came to talk to them, but she supposed Vaughn and Sergei had a lot more friends than she did.
"Oh, Laurel this is Vaughn. Vaughn, Laurel." Harper introduced the two, realizing she hadn't before. Vaughn waved.
She was about to say something to Laurel when Gio walked into the room, just in time to see Dr. Shyr stand up in the center of the room. The boy had arrived at exactly ten, as was his custom. He hated wasting his time by being early anywhere, but knew the consequences of being late. Instead, he arrived perfectly on time everywhere he went. He had it down to an art.
Dr. Shyr looked annoyed and impatient as she glanced around the room, making sure everyone was there. "Alright. It's time to head out. You will all follow me up to the roof where a jet is waiting to take us to the Soviet Union. There is no assigned seating or anything, just get your stuff in the overhead compartments and sit down, I don't want any lollygagging or fighting over seats. YOu can figure it out later, we are getting up in the air as soon as possible. Let's go."
She picked up her bags and walked over to a door that lead to a staircase that Vaughn had never noticed before. She shrugged and followed suit, as did Harper and Gio.
Miah glanced over at the girl, Nellie. She gave her a small nod for a greeting and turned back, waiting for the scientists to start with their announcement.
Sorren dodged impatiently behind Vaughn. His bag was weighing him down.
He struggled with his stuff. Unfortunately, he was just that tall...
When Dr. Shyr mobilized everyone to board the jet, Sergei picked up his duffel bag that had been sitting next to his foot. He also checked to make sure he still had his backpack over his shoulder as if he was a careless person and wouldn't know if he still had his backpack on his back. He followed behind a few hybrids in front of him up the staircase. Good thing he packed light or else it would've been hassle having to carry the weight up the flight of stairs to the roof. Sergei had been here for most of his life and never really been up to the roof. Maybe because the exit to the roof was always kept off limits. Sergei wanted to ask Dr. Shyr something, but decided to postpone until they were off the ground.
He glanced back, looking down the stairs, before looking up ahead again, keeping up with the group in front of him.
